I honestly can't believe I'm about to say this but Saudi Arabia may just be the stabilizing factor in this conflict. They definitely don't want a regional war in their backyard and they also definitely don't want to fuck up the oil economy. And they do have Trumps ear as well. Definitely a weird dynamic.

Then again this could just be me being hopelessly optimistic and naive.

Powerful entities doing the right thing for the wrong reasons may do some good, just not reliably.

They have no problem funding one in Yemen.

Oh I know. Yemen is just a lot more contained. Iran and Israel go to war and it's a whole other story.

It's not inconceivable. The issue is that what is in the interest of nations and what is in the interest of the nation's decision-makers often diverge - and in the case of Trump and Netanyahu, diverge quite starkly.

This entire atrocity is nothing but a disaster for the entire region, Israel included, but it benefits a few Israeli decision-makers, so it goes forward.

Trumps interests will converge to anyone who gives him enough money. There is a big question now if Russian/Saudi money will be enough to get rid of the AIPAC money he would be getting.
