Bullshit. My fossil gen5 sport still doesn't have Google assistant.

[edit to correct myself] apparently I did receive an update at some point recently that finally brought Goog assist

I have a Fossil Gen 6 and didn't get any such update.

Not surprised at all. The difference between two wearos looks small on gui level, but is much bigger internally Plus, wearos2 watches are super limited in hw.

[โ€“] ElPussyKangaroo@lemdro.id 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What's the difference? I don't own a smartwatch so I'm not really in the know.

Wearos2 is android 9. Wearos3 - android 11. Hardware of wearos2 watchfaces is years outdated and very limited (for example, ram) so developers complained that it barely can run any 3pp. Wearos3 requires newer CPU and more ram. On top of that some watch specific functionality was tuned as well, but here I do not know details.

I see. That's pretty sad tho...

Can they get Samsung to stop using the goddamned watch speaker instead of the headset I have paired to the watch too? Because it's infuriating when I "Okay google, call my wife" and it expects me to talk to my wife through my watch like Dick freaking Tracy when I have a fancy-ass headset multipoint paired to both watch and phone.

Ah, I wonder whether this will make Mobvoi finally release that Wear OS3 update for the TicWatch Ultra they've announced since before they sold the watch.

...

Ah who am I kidding. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Plus I'll be honest, having owned a smartwatch now: I don't need one. All I used it for was paying, and frankly pressing a button to unlock it and tilting my wrist takes at best marginally more time than pulling the phone out of my pocket (which unlocks it since my thumb instinctively touches the fingerprint scanner doing that). In a lot of ways I just realized that an external screen for my phone that's a mere 20-80cm away from it is just no good. It's not a separate device after all, plus even then the tiny screen would make it near unusable anyways.

That being said, Horizon is an insanely pretty watchface, even if in Germany the weather is entirely off every single time.

I use my gw4 many times per day and find it very useful. Different people - different needs.

Just a reminder that you should never purchase something based on "promised" updates, especially from Mobvoi...

Yeah it was a present in my case, but I definitely learned my lesson to avoid that company if I need any updates at all.

I like my Galaxy Watch. I use it 95% of the time as a watch, notification reader and fitness tracker only, where a Mi Smart Band would be totally fine for the same functionality, but 5% of the time I use the WearOS functionality which is a great benefit
