How is anything China does that this point news? This is like walking through an orange grove and stopping at every single tree and saying “look, it’s an orange!”.

Of course all the popular software and likely some hardware coming out of China is a mass surveillance device. You should have the same concern about everything from meta and Google too- the difference is that the private companies are spying to make money, China is doing it for societal control and building complex profiles of people around the world to exploit later.

does tencent still have a huge stake in reddit? they did, for sure. but looking it up now all the results are on reddit, so i didn't click.
