Since a McKinsey consultant was made DOT secretary, we've had a disastrous and toxic train wreck that poisoned the northeastern US, domestuc-made aircraft have disassembled in mid-flight, and a runaway ship destroyed a huge and vital bridge, and another ship almost did in another vital bridge.

Meanwhile the comments from him are about airline ticket refunds and supply-chain improvement.

I think he is a smart man, but transportation is not academic, it's a visceral field which rewards actual experience because otherwise one gets clotheslined by reality, see 1st para.

Physical inspections, esp unannounced, and severe penalties are the cure, not remote policy wonking.
