There's something so strange about being up this early and having a few drinks so that I can avoid withdrawal enough to make it to detox at 9am Eastern this morning. A few hours to go. Anyone have tips? This is my 4th visit this year and I don't seem to be making progress. I hate 12 step stuff and am full of religious trauma. If anyone knows of non religious, non step based recovery options I'd love to hear them.
Thank you for sharing that this is what's going on today, it sounds scary and you sound very brave for taking steps forward anyway, i love to hear that! ... Smart recovery sounds like what you may be looking for. It's not nearly as big as AA but here's a link to online meetings https://meetings.smartrecovery.org/meetings/?coordinates=50&location=- ... i attend smart recovery, recovery dharma and AA meetings. I want you to know that i know lots and lots of people who have gotten to long term sobriety and they don't need the 12 steps, a sponsor or any of that other AA stuff to do it. I still go to AA cause it helps me to hear newcomers talk about what a shit show their lives are at the moment. I absorb what is useful and discard what is not... good luck! i'm so proud of you continuing to try. It took me hundreds of tries but i always made sure to try something new each time so that even if i failed, i still learned something for my next try. It's worth the effort!
Also, i know you said you have religious trauma so i didn't talk about recovery dharma but then i remember i know some who talks at one meeting a lot was raised in an awful awful cult and he loves RD. I know you can't go today but the 9am est daily non dukkha meeting is where he hangs out at and it's my favorite meeting. This is buddhist recovery but there's lots of people with religious trauma and they really like RD. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vQmuN3eHggYoR9maoLttce3MkZLTZ0UTByIv_lKK7MbXEElHMBCwD_HX8aP3d1Tcp-J7TihbPgatLWL/pubhtml?gid=1997228258&single=false
