German here: Struwelpeter is not a Fairytale book. Its more of Proto-Comic-Book in rhymes from the Autor Wilhelm Busch. He tried to write "funny" stories for kids in these days, that tells them also a lesson. It were another time back then ;)

Many of his stories, especially his most famous story "Max und Moritz", is common folk-lore and gets recited in everyday German
