Puppy update goes here:
Also, had a bit of a win recently with my home aquarium. I was poking around the YouTubes for Australian content, and found this bloke who has me feeling all nostalgic for the videos of old where the focus was on interesting content and not massive padding out to 10 minute so those sweet advertising dollars can flow. No "Hey whats up YouTube its your boy SparkleLad6969 coming at ya with another quick update video about some bollocks drama no one really cares about but before I get in to all that heres a recap of the last video I posted and also a word from my sponsor and hey SMASH that like button, WALLOP that bell icon, and SUBSCRIBE WITH GREAT PREJUDICE to my channel and also....."
Anyway I've had a drama with the return line on my sump not restarting the siphon itself after a power outage. Not a major drama cause it's a bean animal overflow style (herbie + durso + emergency drain = bean animal) so it just goes down the overflow, but the issue with that is the overflow bypasses some of the filtration and is noisy as buggery until I get home and restart it manually.
Old mate in one of his videos just drops this little nugget about "yeah and I poked a hole in the top of my herbie drain to purge the air because if you have the outlet under water in the sump it can get an airlock and won't restart itself"... Goddamit, that was my exact problem! Drilled a small hole in the top and voila. Works perfectly.
Literally the first time I've heard of that and he just drops it like its nothing. Then he throws down a little "if you run an air line from your durso to the water level it'll turn it in to a siphon if the water level rises too far for more flow". That's genius! Again, first time I've heard of it. And I've watched plenty of aquarium videos because YouTube saw me watching one once and now it's 90% of my recommendations.
Anyway. It was like hearing someone bust out the lyrics for the AquaDuck advert for no reason. Burst of nostalgia reminding me of a better time back when putting your pro tips on the internet was the thing to do for funsies, not pumping out multiple glitzy looking videos a week for the algo with a focus on monetising your content and aspiring to be a leechy "influencer".

That actually sounds like a pro tip and not just... you know.... common sense
