Fuck yeah. They say they only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a fabulous queen with a gun.
Okay, stupid jokes aside - in any dangerous situation that may come, if I'm allowed to pick allies... I've found that people don't come much tougher or more loyal than members of the LGBTQ+ community.
I am afraid we will need to prove we're worthy of that loyalty in the next few years. We all carry a debt to people who got us this far on the road to civil rights.
I hope we pay it forward well.
As a supportive outsider, I'll also throw in my 2c...
I'm not big on the need to carry, but I think it's more important for the queer community now than ever.
Please exercise judgement as to whether it's safe for you to carry - times are tough, and having easy access to means to end a life certainly isn't a great idea for everyone.
If you do choose to carry, please spend some time at the range to ensure that you know what you're doing. It'll help keep both you and those around you safe if the need arises.
Get to know your neighbours, and get friendly if you can - you won't know when you'll need to rely on one another, and a little proactive kindness goes a long way - even if it does nothing more than shift their view of you to being "one of the good ones".
Stay safe out there, folks ❤️
As to point 2, there are people who are emotionally or mentally unstable, have intrusive thoughts, etc. A lot of brains are not qualified to responsibly have access to lethal weapons.
Great point. And I hope those who wisely choose to disqualify themselves are proud to do so. We all have different strengths, and civil rights has had plenty of peaceful victories.
