All PS games are DoA (to me) due to mandatory (completely pointless) PSN linking.

I've had my PS4 pro for years and never had paid PSN, is it required for PS5?

Or just for online play, which I do not care for

Fair enough, I assumed you gamed on both and stopped for PS5 because they made PSN mandatory and I somehow was unaware.

Can't justify a gaming PC when PS4 pro was pretty cheap and my gaming hours are not what they used to be

I can justify a not so new console every 5 or so years as they hit my value for money sweet spot, and reduced gaming hours due to life

But the upfront cost for a decent rig to replace consoles entirely is not what I want to use my money for (for now!)

Can't wait to finally make the jump though!

Somebody else also said it but the steam deck is amazing. Mid level pc performance that can handle almost all new games, and you can use a dock and have it set up just like a console. I use mine all yhe time with bluetooth ps4 controllers. Much bigger games library+being able to emulate so many older consoles makes it a no brainer i think.

The console itself is cheap, sure. But the games are much more expensive, and the monthly subscription will add up over time. Although if you're only playing single player, that may not be an issue. I'd be surprised if you can even get past the boot screen on a PS5 without being connected to the internet and logged in.

Can't wait to finally make the jump though!

It's never been cheaper or easier to make the transition with the Steam Deck!
