I want to be able to just click the link from the home page like link aggregators...

When the whole Reddit fiasco started happening, I saw a lot of people wiping and deleting their Reddit accounts and moving elsewhere, like here on Lemmy.

Now that it's starting to die down a little bit, does anyone regret doing that? Or are you glad that you took that step?

If I try to log into https://lemmy.ml/c/todayilearned with @ancientweasel@social.fossware.space it doesn't work.

If I search for !todayilearned@lemmy.ml from social.fossware.space it doesn't show up.

If I browse to lemmy.ml from federated instances on this lemmy there is no federated login that transits to a session on lemmy.ml .

What and I missing? What is a feasible way to have a useful user experience? It seams like this stuff is less than half baked. Please assist.

You can't sign up directly on !worldnews as registration is not enabled.

You could subscribe the main magazine on Kbin.social or Lemmy.world though

TL;DR: even if your delete script confirms a full wipe and your Reddit profile page shows zero comment, there may still be comments left over (that you can find through a search engine and delete manually on Reddit).

Weeks ago, I used redact.dev to delete all my Reddit comments (thousands of them over 10+ years). Redact.dev confirmed a full wipe, and my Profile > Comments page on Reddit confirmed I had no comment left.

Yet, as of today, Google still returns dozens of results for “$myredditusername site:reddit.com”. It’s not just Google’s crawler lagging; when I follow those links, those comments are still visible on the Reddit website, under my username, where I have the ability to manually delete them.

Thankfully, I hadn't yet nuked my account, because I knew of other users whose deleted comments got reinstated (although that was thought to be caused by the deletion script exceeding the API rate limit; supposedly a different case, as those missed comments would still show in the Profile page).

A problem many have realized is that there are many /tech, /gaming etc. communities in different instances/servers. There is already https://fediverse.observer/ , so I think it wouldn't be too hard to make a service that periodically roams the fediverse, checks for example the last 100,000 submissions of each (or top 100 active servers or something) server/instance, and gets info on all the communities/subs involved. Users could search communities, and if they write "gaming" they would get a list of all the active /gaming communities and info about them: subscriping users, total submissions, instance location (geographical) etc.

This could be used to find suitable /gaming communities for your needs.

A desireable future feature for both kbin and Lemmy would be to find and subscribe to multiple communities with the same name from the fediverse, and manage them to a single feed if the user so desires.

Ideas, thoughts?

I don't think many people understand that if they use Lemmy or kbin, they are posting to the fediverse. There are other platforms and will be more to come. Referring to a post on "Lemmy" or "kbin" is like saying you saw a post on your Windows or Mac computer.

We should be referring to it as...

• I saw it on the fediverse.
• Hey fediverse users ...
• A thread on the fediverse...

New terms may emerge but referring to the platform seems weird, almost ignorant.

edit: A better example is email. You wouldn't assume everyone is on Hotmail because that is the email provider you use. You say I'm sendingan eamail, not I'm sending a Hotmail.

It seems like it would help further prevent censorship, given how each instance of the Fediverse is run by people who can unilaterally decide what their users see. I'm beginning to feel like federation is but a half-step toward a solution.

Threads vs microblogs?

Does anyone have any advice on whether to use #threads or #microblogs when you're looking to say, start a discussion about a topic on #kbin? Is there an etiquette for what option is best? Or do people just pick depending on their mood (having a Twitter vs a Reddit sort of a day)?

I have got my privacy report in CSV form and have about 40k comments each with the id parent Id and permalink. Is there a way to parse this to delete script. I know shreddit does it for $15 premium but looking for free options

yall should check out https://cytu.be/ I cant vouch for the community but its neat. Can anyone else recommend something similar?

It wasn't the fact that there was a limit to see 1000 comments but what they were. The vast majority of my 12 years on Reddit I spent talking about dungeon and dragons 5th edition (DnD 5e) which I started playing early in is lifestyle. It was my first role playing game and I got sucked into the Internet to learn more. Before my first game I found dndnext where I could learn about the current edition. I spent hours and at least 1000 comments talking about playtests, new books, character concepts, rules, adventures and eventually the new onednd playtest.

If you aren't familiar with DnD you might be unfamiliar with their owner wizards of the coast (WoTC) which is part of Hasbro. WoTC has been awful this year, trying to rescind their open licence agreement which allows 3rd parties to operate. They broke their workers union with the Pinkertons and their are rumors their new edition will be digital only. I stopped even caring about the new playtests and completely disengaged with learning anything new.

So I was deleting comments on the old forum that provided me so much entertainment about the old game that I used to love. Both ruined in the same year but overwhelming greed. If that isn't the most millennial late stage capitalism experience I don't know what is.

What are we?

What do Lemmy users call themselves? What do Kbin users call themselves? What about Mast?

So far I can't come up with anything better than "Fediziens"

It was and still is hard - or at least tedious - for me as a software developer to find out how to use the fediverse and lemmy. I can't imagine how annoying it must be for a normal user. The one thing I really liked about reddit, is that you can find a well written guide for everything, often pinned at the top of a specific sub. Is there something like that anywhere?
