The Lawnchair launcher finally got an update after years of nothing. It was just a nightly update but at least some movement is happening.

New in F-Droid. Happy to see this. In the past I used Noice but then Noice wanted Internet access and I stopped using it. It comes with Anti-Features warning. Soothing on the other hand requires very little permissions.

With the latest Droid-ify update (0.6.2) they added "always run in the background" as an option. What benefit would I gain if I allowed this? I never thought I had a problem without it and now every time I open the app a notification pops up that requires me to hit allow or deny to move on. I can't find a way to disable that.

Our smartphones, operating systems and apps are dominated by Google & Apple. "[...] these two Silicon Valley profit-driven companies decide which apps are or aren't allowed, and moderate what our mobile software looks like." says @danlammerhirt from @waag working on the Mobifree project (together with a.o. @efoundation @fdroid @NGIZero @murena @microg @delta

Like i use an older version of android and every new app on fdroid works for me and keeping the main repo full of abandonware isn't a good idea and will hold fdroid back on being a good app store . And its not like the apps are deleted or anything if someone needs them for whatever reason they can find it on archive and not everyone have to load it all when using the main repo which is better for users and those who host mirrors as most of do use the newer apps instead of abandonware and Is there a specific reason they do this ?

I asked this on their IRC but i didn't get any reply and then i got logged out and IRC doesn't show previous chats is there any way to get in touch with them as i think doing this will benefit everyone . I don't have much experience using gitlab and i don't think that is the place to discuss things like that . Also if anyone could get in touch with them about this and keep me updated that'll be appreciated as i am trying to keep my internet accounts small and don't wanna make a github or matrix acc solely for this so if anyone could help that'll ve appreciated. Also does fdroid have any presence on lemmy ?

The old apps i was talking about from top of my mind :

Anysoft keyboard : malayalam, GL TRON, Open Wnn legacy, random ass chinese named keyboard idk how to type it , wifi keyboard, Tibetin keyboard etc. there is a lot so i can't type all of em out.

EDIT : I am talking about unupdated apps not old apps whuch are still updated.

EDIT : No one is asking to wipe the apps from all existence just merely asking to move them to archive where its more suitable and so all of us don't have to load all of it when using the main repositery .

I need an audio file editor app that can change format, cut etc. At this point do suggest any file editor even if it doesn't have all the functions i am looking for as long as it is from the main repo. Thanks in advance for the reccs.

What's the best way, shelter (so work profile with officiale app) or dedicated browser without clear cookies (I'm using fennec as default, so wich other would be good choice?) I'm skipping foss app user case cause there's not insta alternative. Thanks

My Android Phone allows you to run two separate copies of installed applications and a second space where you can run a different profile for apps (Think a Personal or work persona). The stock file manager clearly captures a range of personal and usage data and information for ad targeting. I'm therefore looking for an alternative open source File manager that I could use that allows me to access files in both profiles as the stock one does. Any ideas?

I need a file browser for Android that lets me access folders from my computers while connected through Tailscale. Syncing folders between the devices won't work in this case unfortunately.

Another question: is there a file browser that's considered the best or most feature-rich?

115

That's it. Would you recommended any other repository?

The official Telegram app with ads that appear at inconvenient locations bugs me. Any recomendations for a good FOSS Telegram client that does not show ads?

I need an alarm app that lets me scan QR codes. I find that it helps me get out of bed and take my meds in a timely manner. I have QRalarm but it's a onetime use alarm and I can't schedule times for certain days which I find to be really important. I normally use alarmy but it requires the Google Play store and I'd prefer to not have that yk.

Anyone know a foss option?

For people that read their books digitally, they probably all know of Moon+ Reader the de facto industry standard. However I had a couple issues with Moon Reader, none were show stoppers, but just things that I felt could and should be improved. This led me to looking for alternatives, A LOT! Eventually I stumbled across Legado. It had a user experience that felt sane and modern and it didn't feel like it was bloated by legacy code or design. I've been using it for over a year and though it's not perfect, it's better than M+R for me.

That said, the English translation is sub-par and that's being kind. Subsequently, when I asked the developer to host the translation somewhere it would be easier to translate than on Github, the developer, whom is Chinese and given that their userbase is mostly Chinese and said it wasn't worth the extra work and that is certainly their prerogative.

But… I would honestly like to see this epub reader get the love it deserves from the West. So if anyone would like to contribute to the English translation please make a pull request.

F-Droid vs F-Droid Basic (lemmy.kde.social)

Why are there 2 clients now? There doesn't seem to be that much of a difference between the 2 and you can just not use the features in the full version.

Edit: I found this post from Calyx: https://www.reddit.com/r/CalyxOS/comments/169toc1/calyxos_fdroid/ It seems to be a way for them to push changes like seamless updates without requiring bringing up the entire F-Droid codebase. Seemless updates is in the full client now, so I don't know what else they will be testing with it, but it seems cool regardless.

When I visit the f-droid website, my browser offers me to save a file with a random name. I cannot view the website at all. Any hints?
