Mozilla redesigned the browser 4 years ago. At that time, I was expecting this change for the best, making Firefox as advanced as Chrome, if not more and more intuitive while still retaining the simplicity of UI, is what I thought.

4 years on and I still can't make myself go back to FF. I miss the old simple UI. You could choose any extension from the extension store and personally, the best part was theming which is all gone! The browser is now all clustered. And Mozilla is still using the old screenshots of the browser in Play Store, I wonder why.

I use neo store as my f Droid client but when I install an app on Google Play store neo store also starts installing that app, is it actually installing a second app?

As an example, Infinity for Reddit is likely no longer viable due to the Reddit API changes. This version of Talkback has not been updated since 2013 while this version says it is deprecated. The only viable one at the moment is this one since it has the most recent update.

Are there any open source apps that can version control text files in Android? I don't necessarily need something with lots of features like Git. Even something similar to RCS would be sufficient for me.

I've used a couple, Thumb-Key which was fun but didn't support emojis, and now OpenBoard which is pretty decent as a replacement

They're locking down their ecosystem, have lost faith in a portion of their userbase, and they can't put advertisements on a launcher they can't control.

Sound familiar?

I saw that there's volume control on fdroid wich is fine but doesn't support android 10...any alternative? Thanks

I have a tablet, a #Huawei from the embargo time which means a forked #Android 10 without Google. I'm quite happy using it with mostly open source apps installed via @fdroid : Tusky, Fennec, @k9mail, VLC... Unfortunately, the last update is from July 2022. Now the screen is broken, yet the tablet is still usable. Now I am unsure whether to pay 35€ for a new screen or just use it as long as the screen still works. I cannot completely rule out that for example videos via #mastodon can be a risk 1/

I use a Xiaomi phone, it has this annoying "Security" app that gets everytime I'm installing or updating an app to pass a "security scan" and show me an add. F-Droid downloads updates on start, but then I just get this message "App update is ready to install" and then I have to manually install each update.

Any idea on how to bypass this app? I have partially debloated my phone using some ADB debloater but I'm worried my OS will break if I remove this "Security" app.

Also don't know if I'll also need to keep installing each update individually even after deleting it.

I also noticed that I haven't given permissions for "modifying system settings" to F-Droid.

Stable-Diffusion-Android is an Android application that allows users to quickly and easily create images from text or other images.

Technically, it is a Stable-Diffusion client that connects to either your neural network instance (running on your server or Colab) or you can use AI Horde (a crowdsourced distributed cluster)

The app also includes a built-in gallery for storing AI-generated images, with export capabilities.

The download is available through F-droid

Authenticator Pro (lm.ilyamikcoder.com)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by Lemmy@lm.ilyamikcoder.com to c/fdroid@lemmy.ml

Authenticator Pro - Free open source two-factor authentication app for Android. Has encrypted backups, icons, categories and a high level of customization. There is also a companion app for Wear OS.

TOTP (time-based) and HOTP (counter-based) authenticators are supported, using SHA1, SHA256 or SHA512 hashing algorithms. Mobile-Otp (mOTP), Steam, and Yandex are also supported.

Two-factor authentication provides an additional layer of account security by requiring a one-time login code. In addition to a username and password, a code provided by Authenticator Pro is required. So even if your login credentials are compromised, your account remains secure.

Features

  • ⚙️ Compatibility: Authenticator Pro is compatible with most ISPs and accounts.
  • 📲Import: Easily transfer accounts to Authenticator Pro from supported alternative applications.
  • 💾 Backup/Restore: Authenticator backup with strong encryption. If you lose or change your phone, you can always access your accounts. Backups can be saved to cloud storage or on your device.
  • 🌙 Dark Mode: Authenticator Pro has a beautiful appearance created in material design style, in light or dark themes.
  • ⏺️ Icons: Easily find your authenticators with recognizable brand logos and icons next to each code.
  • 📂 Categories: Organize your authenticators by category.
  • 🔒 Autonomy with few permissions: Authenticator Pro requires only one permission¹ and does not need internet access.
  • 🔑 Security: Set a password and use biometric authentication to protect your codes.
  • 🎨 Personalization: Set icons and renaming. You can also arrange the authenticators in any order so they are easy to find.
  • Wear OS: Quickly view authenticators right from your watch. Note that a connection to an Android device is required. Also, distributions of the F-Droid app are not compatible with Wear OS as proprietary dependencies are required.

The app requires camera resolution to scan QR codes.

Authenticator Pro is currently only available in the F-Droid client via the IzzyOnDroid repository. You must first add this repository to the F-Droid client.

Jerboa (lm.ilyamikcoder.com)

Jerboa is an app for Lemmy, a federated reddit alternative. Jerboa is made by Lemmy's developers, and is free, open-source software, meaning no advertising, monetizing, or venture capital, ever.

Lemmy is similar to sites like Reddit, Lobste.rs, or Hacker News: you subscribe to forums you're interested in, post links and discussions, then vote, and comment on them. Behind the scenes, it is very different; anyone can easily run a server, and all these servers are federated (think email), and connected to the same universe, called the Fediverse.

Geddit is an open-source Reddit client that is designed to be fast, beautiful and simple. Its main objective is to not use the Reddit API directly, but instead use the RSS/JSON feeds to display content. This allows the app to view Reddit without being subject to API limits, changes and problems. Geddit works without a Reddit account, which also means that you can stay anonymous while browsing Reddit, if you are concerned about privacy.

Some of the features of Geddit include:

  • View posts, comments, subreddits and users
  • View images, gifs, videos and self posts
  • Access NSFW content
  • View your subscribed subreddits
  • Save photos to your device
  • Share posts
  • Search for posts, subreddits and users
  • Support for app links

Looking for an app that will allow me to connect to my Helix Gusto 2.0 smartband. All I found is a chinese spyware that detects everything about my device and sends it to tencent.

I also tried to develop one but it's not possible if I don't have access to the sdk for the device.

The app that I found for my device is Fundo pro and it's capable of pairing with multiple devices. Will really appreciate if someone can help me how to make an app for my device. Or atleast find a non spyware.

As the title says, is there a good mobile alternative for excel on fdroid? I found libreoffice but it hasn't worked so far with any spreadsheet I've tried opening.

For the last 3 or 4 days, Breezy Weather has not been working properly and it no longer shows me current weather. Changing the data source didn't help and unfortunately a reinstallation didn't help either. Does anyone else have this problem? :(

I'm not heavily political really, but I don't fancy giving my soul and money to the Murdoch family, like reading from radio x website (which is owned by them but gives news about rock music mainly) just refuse to give money to someone who also owns a vile piece of vermin also known as the sun.

As the title states any suggestions will be great thanks

I hate Facebook but realized I can't uninstall the bloatware Messenger app from my phone since I actually need it for Facebook Marketplace (I usually use it for selling second-hand stuff and looking for other products/services). Also I have plenty of friends there and it might be good to reconnect with some without dealing with the spyware Meta shit.

Also something for WhatsApp would be good as well
