I currently use Swiftly Switch. It is an app that adds a small bar to the side of the device and by swiping that part, I am shown a list of apps of my choosing. This allows me to open apps much faster.

Sadly, it is not open source. Is there something similar but open source?

Tl;dr : I'd like to find an app that switches any part of an url with a certain pattern to another chosen pattern when I open it.

Explanation of what I'm trying to do:

An institution I have an account in offers free access to a few online publications that are normally behind a paywall, via ezproxy. The standard way to use it is impractical: You must go through the institution's website, log on, go to the page listing online ressources, find the one you're looking for and log in to your account to access it. What's more, the rss feeds of the proxy version of these sites don't work.

A quicker way to access it is to go on the (paywalled) article, switch a part of the url with a certain pattern that's always the same, and log in if not already done. On my desktop, I could use a Firefox addon named "redirector" to do this automatically. This way, I follow the publications normal website rss feed, and when I click on the link I get the unpaywalled version. But I also look a feeds on my phone, with Feeder, and I'd also like being able to get the full articles there (I don't mind opening the article in a brower). Firefox for Android and it's forks don't have the Redirector add-on tho. Is there another way I could do the same thing on Android, so I can click on a feed and have it redirect to the proxy version?

Ideally, I'd like the solution to be FOSS.

(My phone isn't rooted and cannot be, as the bootloader is locked)

I still like the F-Droid Classic very much due to the clean and slim interface. I somebody struggles with F-Droid I always recommend installing the Classic Client.

Is there an apo to apply cool filters to images instagram like? Or any image editor which supports using images as stickers?

So far, I haven't seen any contact apps that can sync with DavX. Only Google's contact app has option to switch between accounts (e.g. Google or DavX, etc.).

Using password managers and 2FA with passwords can be a slow and boring process, if you can unlock with fingerprint is much faster and frictionless, however I dont want my provider to know my fingerprints (samsung) is there a way to achieve this?

Ever since I started degoogling my life, i missed how to integrate calendar and tasks in all my devices. Because of my work Im stuck using Macos and I have a debloated samsung device with F-droid. However I need a way of syncing calendars and tasks between Macos and my phone, so I can get push notifications on both of my devices about events and pending tasks, I really need this as i often struggle with ADHD and the only way of getting my tasks done is being very structured with my apps notifying me with the tasks i need to do. Do you guys know what is the best way to implement this using FOSS software?

In #FLOSSWeekly @dsearls and @webmink talk with @fdroid 's @eighthave . Hear from #Fdroid 's technical lead Hans-Christoph about the current and future of the #FreeSoftware (#OpenSource) catalogue for the #Android platform and what plans there are to make it even easier to browse, install, and keep track of updates on your device.

There is an app called FocusReader which does exactly above using user provided chatgpt Api key. I dont want to use api rather authentication in browser since api costs. If app is foss its better. If no such app exist. I may learn app development and integrate this feature in Flym. If anyone has any alternative in mind, please suggest or if you have android app development experience, suggest after looking at the code at github how can i go about the development myself.

I've just found Syncthing and I'm blown away by this app. So, I'm interested if any of my other apps can be replaced by foss equivalents that can be synced.

My first suggestion is Obsidian - which, at first I had problems syncing with paid solutions, but syncs flawlessly with Syncthing.

Does anyone have any more suggestions? Ideally looking to sync between android devices, but any info is much appreciated.

Update : many thanks for all the suggestions - some good ones. Hopefully we can keep adding the ones we find that can be synced from local folders.

Hello,

Any Applications with "App lock" feature available?

Found one, but outdated : https://github.com/Maxr1998/MaxLock

If any active open source projects are there, list it here.

Thanks ,

I want to connect to my server via ssh on my phone, then rename a bunch of files with a batch rename function. Are there any open source file managers that do that?

I checked Ghost Commander but didn't look like there is a batch rename function, neither for Material Files. Unless I miss something.

All I need is something to trim time off the ends of a video and knock it from 1080p down to 720p.

Its not a secret that grpahene OS amd other foss, privacy oriented roms dont support many devices letting a lot of people locked inside proprietary roms. Thats my case so i want to replace as much as I can the proprietary software on my samsung phone if possible for Graphene OS alternatives but i can't find their apps on F-droid unfortunately, so i wanted to ask if theres a repository for their apps, itwould be a shame if not, because i think it could help people to have more FOSS apps on their phones.

Would really love a launcher that can format icon shapes so that they're all uniform in shape, like Nova Launcher ...but open source.

When updating f-droid, and etar I believe is trying to update from 1.0.34 to 1.0.35, the following error shows up:

Error installing Etar - Opensource Calendar

Error - 112: The system failed to install the package because it s attempting to define a permission that is already defined by some existent package

Not sure what's going on, since there's no mention of which other package has already defined the permission Etar is trying to define. Also, 1.0.34 works fine, and what's advertised as new:

  • Add url field
  • Bug fixes
  • New translatios

So I don't see anything about permissions, :(

Is this happening to others? Any work around, other than waiting for the issue to go away on a future release?

Edit: There's a reported issue on Etar's github: F-Droid Version 1.0.35 Will Not Install, which seems to affect LOS, and therefore LOS for microG (what I use)
