This is entirely the fault of the IWF and Microsoft, who create "exclusive" proprietary CSAM prevention software and then only license big tech companies to use it.

“You asked, we answered,” Meta wrote in the notes for an iOS update released on Monday. “New features coming, so keep an eye out as you browse the latest version of the app.” I don’t see any obvious differences in my updated version of the app. But Instagram boss Adam Mosseri teased a “following” feed in a video, so hopefully that’s coming soon. (Meta, I’m also begging you for a way to look at my feeds on the web.)

Also, since back when I last looked for youtube alternatives, many that seemed good turned out to use things like NFT and the sort, I feel compelled to ask:
Does it use technologies such as that, or are its instances just plain usual self-hosted sites?

We're making our way through the Fediverse, takin' her easy for all us sinners.

I get it that things can have unfortunate names, but I've seen a lot of people proudly claim lemmy is "federated" or a "federation". Isn't a federation actually against what people want out of the fediverse?

Like, a federation in governments is about a bunch of otherwise self-governing states under a centralized government. Like the US, that's a federation.

isn't the whole point of the fediverse that it's anti-centralization? Then why do people call it a federation positively? That sounds like the last thing I'd want it to be.

I think a confederation would work, but that's not what I see people going for. Is that what it's actually intended to be and people just call it the wrong thing?

Imo Reddit is more of a federation than the fediverse, since the subreddits are self-governing communities until the admins demand them to change something.

Meow, meow,

Few days ago I started working on a simple Wiki where I want to 'collect' all documentation on setting up Fediverse services and everything around it in one place.

Still adding new stuff on a daily basis. Hopefully it will be helpful to someone

I realized that there are alot of inactive communities across the Lemmy and kbin instances. The beauty of decentralization is that we don't rely on a central instance, if a fediverse instance becomes the central one that hosts the majority of posts, then if that instance goes down, we lose alot. I also suggest posting to small communities on other instances.

There's an increase in analytics services on the fediverse nowadays, and the trend seems to be shifting from personal to business products.

A slew of bad internet bills are being pushed through the US Legislature. Can we look to the Fediverse to carry activist causes?

After a month of waiting, CalcKey's official rebranding has been announced as...Firefish? The project's future is looking bright.

Right now, we are frequently posting contents and interacting with the communities in order to make Fediverse more alive and more "social" as social media. But really, compared to Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, we probably don't even exist.

We need that one person, who will be actively using, or at least interested in Fediverse and is popular enough to put Fediverse onto the mainstream.

If there is that one person, who would be the best for that?

So after stumbling across this patently absurd bit of Russian propaganda from noagendasocial.com, I'd thought I'd stroll on over to the instance and see what the fuck is going on over there. After all, it's run by Adam Curry of MTV VJ fame and the so-called podfather, so it's gotta be just one bad apple, right?

Holy fuck, it's like walking into FSB propaganda machine made for Trumptards. That one bad apple is a power user with the top rated post, an anti-LGBTQ+ meme.

@adam what the absolute hell? You used to be cool when I was 8 and watching MTV. Did you lose your morality and ethics when you cut your hair?

Managing a Mastodon instance is hard work, with the most effort going to moderation and abuse, and not technical operations as one might expect.
