I can only speculate with zero evidence, but it's possible that the creator has strong feelings about communism, neo-nazis, or reddit, and others involved have other stances.

I don't think the app or Lemmy itself was archived due to technical reasons though, it seemed to work decently enough.

I'm not saying that Ukraine must continue because they've invested so much into the fight that it would be awful to stop now. That's the core fallacy, that you owe it to all the past pain and effort to keep trying even if things are looking bad: just because you lost a million men getting here doesn't mean you won't suffer total defeat trying to get to the finish line.

What I am saying is that Ukraine would be foolish not to continue because they're in an incredibly strong position with a track record that defies all odds against a weak retreating struggling foe. Now, it's sure possible that Crimea is a hard target full of Russian loyalists ready to fight to the death, but it's also possible that it's full of Ukrainians who are tired of Russian rule and ready to go back to how things were. I can't know, I'm not there.

Don't quit while you're ahead is a very different thing from don't quit because you've given up so much to get this far.

It was ok and I met one person there but I prefer okcupid personally. Hinge seems decent.

I mod a smaller sub and haven't received this, seems like they're negotiating with the biggest subs/mods only. I haven't gotten a single communication from Reddit about this outside of what's publicly posted or in the news.

Just because you haven't been paying attention to developments doesn't mean things don't add up. You seem to be unaware that sanctions are only mildly effective, Iran and China and North Korea are helping Russia, Russia is losing ground and poised to lose all of their gains since this invasion and possibly even into the 2014-era holdings like Crimea, but they're also entirely committed to it and Crimea specifically is a peninsula that will be very hard to take from the outside.

Sunk cost fallacies don't apply when your side has achieved 80%+ of its objectives despite starting out in a situation where a full and immediate loss was expected on all sides. The sunk cost fallacy is actually on Putin's side: just because he had tanks occupying large parts of Ukraine doesn't mean that continuing to fight will ever result in substantial gains again. If anything he's poised to maim every soldier-aged man in his country for nothing.

Pretty sure MySpace sold itself to AOL and it got instantly replaced by Facebook. Tumblr and Twitter both sold out and got sucky. It's a common trend once entrepreneurs decide they want to cash out or move on.

I've spent the majority of my life upset that apparently in the 23rd century they have regressed and no longer have "kitty litter" and are instead dealing with non-absorbent silica and coral granules? Like who made this narrative decision?

Oh no, how dare a game known for its dark visuals make use of the whole spectrum lol. If that's the highest critique then it's gotta be the best dungeon crawler of all time

Pokemon requires you to understand type matching, so like water beats fire but fire beats grass type of thing, and there's plenty of numbers to get familiar with.

It's possible, any admin can do anything they want, but it would be relatively rare. The way I've seen that play out is like if an instance pops up that seems like it's run by a Nazi but you can't really tell so you look at who their friends are. Usually it's like if the admin is interacting a lot with Nazi instances or content you can guess where their loyalties will lie. But a lot of instances simply won't block random small instances that haven't caused trouble yet, through nothing but being unaware.

Some communities want to be insular though, it's totally valid to want a "private forum" for let's say kids or religions or schools or a marginalized demographic. So they may block nearly everything for their own internal reasons.

My advice, don't hang out near Nazis and don't hang out in a place that doesn't make it clear that Nazis aren't welcome. Lemmy doesn't really have a lot of code of conduct stuff set up but that's the main thing to pay attention to.

The memo as a whole is encouraging employees to keep working and not lose faith or get scared; that part is telling them that they're not going to get laid off due to declining revenues.

Of course it's all BS, businesses can't predict the future, but I'd agree that advertisers and subscribers didn't suddenly cancel en masse. It'll take more action to see effects there.

Your contributions won't vanish, I can still see comments from people from dead servers on Mastodon because it's cached on my server. The bigger issue is when you set up a new username on a new server, how can you show that you're the old person. So ideally pick a server that has policies in place about offline notices, multiple admins, a funding plan, backups, policies about Nazis, etc.
