Mycelium, the root-like part of a fungus, can be grown in combination with organic matter to fit different-shaped moulds, producing a strong building material that can be cultivated anywhere.

It's "a healthy material because it's fully natural", urban planning expert Srouri, who is Palestinian, said next to a prototype shelter -- a roomy, enclosed structure with windows and a sloping roof.

"It's something that can provide the solution to extreme weather conditions to protect them from the extreme cold."

After the treaty was adopted last year by the United Nations, more than 100 countries have signified their intent to ratify it, but so far only 14 countries have. Only around 8 percent of the oceans are currently considered protected.

Pact hailed as EU migration breakthrough in tatters after judges rule asylum seekers must be transferred to Italy

A multimillion-dollar migration deal between Italy and Albania aimed at curbing arrivals was presented by the European Commission president, Ursula von der Leyen, as a new model for how to establish processing and detention centres for asylum seekers outside the EU.

But it seems neither von der Leyen nor Italy’s far-right prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, had taken existing law into account.

Unrest broke out before and after the Ajax-Maccabi Tel Aviv football match in Amsterdam on November 7. In the following days, international media coverage of the riots was criticised. Many outlets focused on anti-Semitic attacks, while overlooking anti-Arab or anti-Muslim behaviour by Maccabi supporters. Part of this was because a video filmed by Dutch photographer Annet de Graaf was widely circulated and often misrepresented. Our guest in this edition of Scoop is professor and disinformation expert Marc Owen Jones.

France’s far-right leader Marine Le Pen faces the prospect of being banned from running in the 2027 presidential election if found guilty of embezzling EU funds. But a guilty verdict, if it comes, could be a blessing for Le Pen’s photogenic protégé Jordan Bardella, leaving the 29-year-old with a clear path to the Elysée Palace.

This is an article written last year about a fascist-in-progressive-clothing festival in Vermont called 'Libertystock'. This thing is going to be happening again Dec. 12-14 at the Bellow Falls Opera House in Bellow Falls, VT under a new name: the "Liberty Food Fest". People are more than annoyed by this thing and not only want to get the word out, but also show exactly the kind of people that would gravitate to the likes of a Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. for example.

With spotlight on politicians and their pledges in Baku, fossil fuel lobbyists are racking up private meetings with Trudeau’s government.

In the last year Pathways Alliance, a coalition representing six of the largest oil sands companies, booked 78 meetings with almost 40 senior federal officials including the deputy prime minister, three ministers, three deputy ministers, six assistant deputy ministers, three chiefs of staff, seven members of parliament and two senators. The deputy secretary to the cabinet for clean growth had 38 separate meetings with lobbyists for the Pathways Alliance.

Back at COP29, Canadian hypocrisy is rich indeed. Even if carbon capture of oil sands production worked perfectly, this multi-billion dollar bandaid – largely funded by taxpayers – would only deal with about 20 percent of ultimate emissions. The other 80 percent of downstream emissions from Canadian fossil fuels exported elsewhere in the world now exceeds our entire economy by 327 MT/yr – an amount more than the annual emissions from the UK or 190 other countries.

More lobbyists for the controversial technology were present this year, despite debate about its viability

At least 480 lobbyists working on carbon capture and storage (CCS) have been granted access to the UN climate summit, known as Cop29, the Guardian can reveal.

That is five more CCS lobbyists than were present at last year’s climate talks, despite the overall number of participants shrinking significantly from about 85,000 to about 70,000.

CCS lobbyists at Cop29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, outnumber the core national delegations from powerful nations including the US and Canada. Nearly half of the lobbyists were granted access as members of national delegations, affording them greater access to negotiations, including 55 who were invited as “guests” by the Azerbaijani government,

On Friday, it was revealed that 1,773 coal, oil, and gas lobbyists have been granted access to the climate talks, including 132 invited by the host country, as the Guardian reported.

The Dispossessed is a science fiction novel written by Ursula K. Le Guin and published in 1974. The novel is set in a fictional universe and tells the story of two planets, Urras and Anarres, and their relationship with each other. The novel explores themes of anarchism, socialism, and the struggle for freedom and equality.

The audiobook version of The Dispossessed is narrated by Don Leslie and was released in 2008. The audiobook is 13 hours and 25 minutes long

The story of The Dispossessed is told through the eyes of the protagonist, Shevek, a physicist from Anarres who travels to Urras to share his research with the scientists there. Anarres is a planet that was settled by anarchists who left Urras in search of a better life. Anarres is a harsh and barren planet, but the people who live there have created a society based on the principles of anarchism and socialism. There is no government or hierarchy on Anarres, and everyone works together for the common good.

Urras, on the other hand, is a planet that is divided into two nations, A-Io and Thu. A-Io is a capitalist society, while Thu is a socialist society. Shevek is fascinated by the differences between the two planets and wants to share his research with the scientists on Urras in the hope of creating a better future for both planets. (...)

The international lending giant has pledged to double agriculture funding by 2030, but development banks are so far “failing spectacularly” to invest in sustainable solutions.

For those focused on the Israel-Gaza war, she has tried to emphasize the stakes of the climate crisis. “I mean, don’t you want to pass down a better world to the next generation?”

So for those focused on the Israel-Gaza war, she tried to change the topic. Terrible approach.

A better world to the next generation? While Zionists have been destroying the world of their neighbors with bombardments for over a year and keep doing so with no end in sight? While Zionists are actively participating in an effort to eliminate the next generation of Palestinians? So the actual suggestion is to disregard these facts, for a better world for everyone, except Palestinians.

Enough for sure, but not for the reasons mentioned in this article.

I need evidence

Maybe The dawn of everything: A new history of humanity by David Graeber and David Wengrow could be a nice start?

Coincidentally, I'm also queer, an immigrant most of my life (since childhood actually and in several places), and I am most probably neurodivergent, but never had the money to check this out officially.

I think understand what you say. Still, the way I see things if we do a statement/analysis mentioning humans I believe we are condemned to arrive to the wrong conclusions if we only take into account the dominant civilization/culture. Or see things through its narrative.

I'm not saying to discard its importance. I'm just saying it's equally important to take into consideration broader inputs through time and space, to try to have a clearer picture.

Something like that.

No, I don't agree with this at all. It tells us something about capitalism. It tells us something about how the U.S. are nowadays. Nothing more, nothing less.

We can do both!

I think I understand how you feel, in the sense I had a similar despair when I first landed in this community. Then I took a look around in this instance and found the slrpnk wiki page. Even just reading it was soothing for me, in a realistic way. If you feel like, take a look at it.

Please do keep in mind that Zionists and Jews are not synonyms. Jews have been opposing Zionism since its inception and keep doing so in large numbers. See also:

Our Approach to Zionism - JVP - Jewish Voice for Peace

Jewish Voice for Peace is guided by a vision of justice, equality and freedom for all people. We unequivocally oppose Zionism because it is counter to those ideals.

I'm not sure I understand. This article talks about the Amazon fires and the criminals they mention are those that have been illegally ranching cattle there? Not the major deforestation companies for example? Did I perhaps miss something?

This sounds like one more theory to me since the

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says in a written statement that “at this time, neither the substance nor its source has been identified. However, preliminary analysis at an ECCC laboratory suggests that the material could be plant-based.”

I am a bit conflicted with this article. One one hand I think I understand the intentions behind it, but It seems to me that it confuses opportunistic vanguardism with pragmatism.

Yes, Lenin managed to convince enough people to hijack the February Revolution and concentrate all the power to ~~the party~~ himself. To my understanding, he accomplished that mainly by using the wording of the actual bottom-up revolution. So the problem for me is not a matter of principle(s), but how to be sharp enough as a movement not to be fooled by people using a familiar narrative, while trying to achieve their own goals. Something like that.

Edit: Meaning, "pragmatism" was the bait. Nothing more.

There's no long term knowledge about fungus stuff once processed into these new forms.

Just to clarify that the fungus stuff is just mycelium. It is a totally natural product that is in this case foam-like. It is not processed, just dried at specific temperatures.

As they mention in this article:

these earplugs are made from Forager’s mycelium foam – and nothing else. This means they can break down in weeks to months,

“GOB’s earplugs are USDA Certified Biobased and entirely made from mycelium, a natural material that breaks down as easily as the produce you eat,”
