I really appreciate your take. It's definitely a valid concern. The good thing about this,is that because Lemmy it's not a company, decisions and changes are more discussed on the community.

Regarding the issue that you bring to light with the idea I propose, maybe the join-lemmy instance list can only show instances that are federated? Again it will still allow advanced users to use a custom URL to join to a custom instance.and because (as far as my understanding goes, please correct me if I'm wrong) new instances are not federated by default. The mayority of the community will have to have agreeded to the communities on the list to some extent. In that case I personally use jerboa for mobile, and the idea of having multiple accounts sounds great too.

On regards to educating users better, that actually is a good idea. When I hear the term "feddiverse" I think that maybe a visual representation of the Lemmy federation can be helpful to understand the whole thing. Maybe an interactive map when you join to understand what's your "home" instance. Hell maybe we can take a page out of Nintendo Pokemon go and make a little questionare to suggest a instance for a new user to join.(again this will be a suggestion and they can always join a custom instance or redo the questionare). This will make it easier for the run of the mill user to visualize the concept and streamline the process

I was actually reading about it on another lemmy post. The thing is that most users will not engage with something that it's so complicated. A User who wants to join Reddit ,Facebook or Twitter they just go to the website register and then can use the platform. And while it's great for advanced users to have the choice to select their own instance. Most people don't want to be bothered by that and I can detract for the easy adoption of the platform (adoption that it's important for us to reach a critical user Mass and make lemmy a real competitor to Reddit). Maybe we can propose a change to the GitHub. To add more abstraction . Like when you sign up,it will automatically pick an instance for you from the federation to balance the load. But you can also (if you are an advanced user) pick it by yourself .

Dude I discovered reddit because bacon reader. Hell I didn't even knew there was an official app. I NEED the tile scrolling,it's such a pain to have to go back and scroll to the next post instead of just slide from one to another. Maybe we can send him an email? I know he has like a weather app or something?

Yeah it's mostly investment people that have a lot of money and are basically the ones pulling the strings. Because if they don't like you then the value of your company goes down and poof you were deeply s***
