Regarding scuba, it’s worth noting that it’s incompatible with air travel to some extent. I heard a story about a guy who did a scuba dive on vacation somewhere, then got on a plane and experienced intense pain as the aircraft gained altitude because the nitrogen level in his body can’t take the pressure differences (or something like that). The pilot was forced to fly at a low altitude for the entire trip to prevent the diver from suffering. It’s probably part of scuba training but thought it should be mentioned.

Hello - I’m relatively new to this ~~ghost town~~ node :). I created !finance@lemmy.globe.pub a few months ago to have a place to discuss foreign exchange and making payments abroad, which was lacking in the whole threadiverse.

Anyway, I’m trying to create another new community with these parameters:

  • name: navigation_technology
  • display name: Navigation technology, SatNav, OSM, …
  • sidebar Everything about hardware and software used for navigation.

But when clicking the “create” button, it just spins for a moment and goes back to a create button. No error message, but will not move forward.

Has community creation been disabled? I noticed a strange new group called “G's Chicken and Waffles” which actually just has posts about the Ruby programming language. So I wonder if that possible spam/abuse might have led to restrictions on creating communities.

(edit)
Perhaps it should be slightly broader than navigation tech, and be “travel technology”, which could then cover, idk, things like tourist review software or the ITA software app. Though it would probably still be primarily navigation tech that people discuss.

I needed to pull €460 from an ATM in Europe. My bank charges 0% on the currency conversion, thus it would cost me around ~$500 according to the xe.com conversion rate.

So €460 = ~$500.

The ATM offered a dynamic currency conversion that would have resulted in a draw of $575! That’s a 15% conversion fee, no? That is staggering crazy. Of course DCC is almost always a bad move especially in my case. I’m just wondering how this is legal. I might expect DCC to not exceed 3.5% in Europe where scammy shit like this is generally reined in and controlled.
