I’m wondering if the cast appearances will include actors from S31 and Starfleet Academy, or just from Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds.

And I am wondering if we might see more casting news for Starfleet Academy ahead of SDCC.

Or at least some character names to go with the casting announcements we’ve already had. It would also be great to know what species some of these will be.

I was replying to the sarcastic remark directly above that posits that Trek has an adequate fanbase to sustain the franchise.

Prodigy’s been an investment in reaching younger fans and building an audience for the future.

Starfleet Academy’s target audience is later teens and young adults. Basically, ‘the key demographic’ as reported by Nielsen in the US.

Advertisers care mainly about 18-35 year olds, and now that streaming has ads that key demographic is important for the survival of the franchise.

Besides if the franchise hadn’t expanded its fanbase in the 90s it wouldn’t be viable now. And let’s face it, it’s not that significant outside North America. Gone are the days when US audiences were adequate for survival.

I have to say that this makes me rather sad.

Instead of drawing folks into the fandom tent with adjacent topics or broadening the discussion of established fans, it’s creating less conversation.

I think that there’s a place for a ‘discuss the health of the instance’ conversation on a separate dedicated community, but also a Trek-adjacent general and open discussion. I consider Frakes’ career as a sci-fi director or the Paramount saga as adjacent.

As long as it meets the norms of the instance in terms of civility, why not? Are the admins/mods truly being flooded with a high volume of spam from outside on Quarks?

Last, I would like to note that without Quark’s being open, I doubt we’d have had the interest to create the Dr Who community. I think that it’s cool that it percolated up through the discussion.

I really wish Hallmark put more effort into reaching younger fans with their collections.

And even older fans like me would like some merch from the newer shows and not just more TNG, and TOS or even Enterprise.

Do they have any kind of realistic focus groups informing these selections?

Her hair even goes white-blond as of book 2. LOL

I have observed elsewhere that no women are announced in the creative team. I hope they get a strong female-presenting A-list lead who insists on EP status.

‘Venus Prime’ is the way the novelizations were branded and marketed starting with the first book ‘Breaking Strain’ in 1987.

As you can see from the cover image, it was an early example of the ‘hot babe with powers’ marketing approach.

The waiting period for a better offer seems like a deft way to fend off ‘if only’ lawsuits from nonvoting shareholders.

Interesting gamesmanship.

This is great news for Frakes.

He was on the upswing as a director until the debacle of the Thunderbirds movie basically made him unemployable.

Star Trek has enabled him to get back into directing work, and even some acting.

He’s been picking up directing work beyond the franchise over the last few years, but an EP supervising director role for an entire limited series adaptation of a prestige author is definitely a step forward.

A 90 minute animated streaming movie for either Netflix or Paramount could be great.

Giving Christina Chong’s original pop Britpop music a bit more of a boost here.

This new single and video appears to be honouring her identity as a biracial child, including several clips from family home videos of her childhood.

For a more intense piece, with dancers, try Two Flames released last month. She directed that official video herself.

I often consider Screenrant clickbait, but kudos to Mark Donaldson for getting one of the first analyses of the beauty shots and the Doctor’s description from the Prodigy 2 x 01 sneak peak made available at STLV.

SUMMARY

The USS Voyager-A, unveiled in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2, has undergone noticeable upgrades including increased staffing levels, advanced technology, and a larger shuttle bay.

The Voyager-A is a Lamarr-class science vessel, honoring real-world female scientist Hedy Lamarr, in line with the legacy of Janeway as a female leader and scientist.

While the Voyager-B and Voyager-J also feature upgrades and unique technologies, the Voyager-A stands out with its larger size and alternative warp drive.

Thanks again to all who joined in the creative fun on Canvas. It’s been great getting to cooperate with you in this midsummer enthusiasm.

Our efforts have stood up fairly well, despite a touch of final hours encroachment by an enthusiastically growing flag of Ireland and what seems to be an extension of the Trans flag. I guess a wordmark in violet was too great a temptation for them to resist interacting with.

Edited: TIL the colours of the Trans flag. My bad for not knowing them already

Didn’t see this coming. Prodigy EPs the Brothers Hageman have dropped a scene from season two, episode one.

And it’s on the official StarTrek.com site.

My spouse is muttering ‘makes no sense at all…’

I’m enjoying just having gorgeous new Prodigy animation to see. And those of you who love a great flyby of a new ship - get ready!

If you loved La’an’s song in SNW Subspace Rhapsody, you will want to check out Christina’s recently released album and EP.

Two official music videos have been released to date, with a third to drop in two days.

-- The SNW command delta is complete.

-- A user from another instance has taken the lead on an original Constitution-class.

-- Worf has a wordmark.

The fandom is making a good showing (if not as overwhelming as the My Little Pony space).

If you haven’t yet tried (or succeeded) in dropping a pixel, just head to the Canvas and login identifying your instance and username. You’ll be sent a PM with a confirmation code to authenticate your login.

Once in you can just drop pixels or join a faction. So far there are two active Star Trek factions: Quark’s (short name QUARK) and The Klingon Empire (short name KLINK) that you can join.

I have begun a Starfleet Delta, but haven’t figured out how to share the overlay template. It’s discernible enough as a delta now that others might wish to join in.

Canvas has groups called factions. In have created one called c/quark’s

There’s a pixelated drawing board for Lemmy now.

My own artistic skills are dubious, but with some help I could lay out the markers to start a Starfleet delta to stake out some Trek-positive space on the canvas.
