Ayn Rands' arguments can be picked out without reading the entirety of Atlas Shrugged, key passages, interviews, and interpreters are enough. And there seems to be a resounding consensus that her arguments are too weak and flawed to be philosophy as opposed to mere opinion. She contradicts herself and notoriously refused to address any criticism of her points. She is speaking too generally and not subjectively, and your post suggests to look at her life as anecdotal evidence for her positions. A big no no in philosophy. If she's doing philosophy, her upbringing shouldn't technically matter to a more universal truth. I was raised Conservative Christian, for example, and I don't believe one should think oh these factual claims have more weight because of my upbringing. Why shouldn't I be able to disagree with her? Lastly, she gets hate because of how many Ethical Egoists tout her as their go to gal, when her arguments are incredibly flawed and not close to academic. There are better Egoists with somewhat sound arguments out there even if you so choose to believe that crap.
