It's a damned if you do and damned if you don't thing.

There's always going to be grifters who'll try to milk such a program. But on the other hand there are legitimately promising ideas out there that could really benefit from a bit of a hand.

For example I've yet to see any agrivoltaics here in Switzerland but with the worsening water situation a bit of shade over various crops might be just what the doctor ordered.

The minis alone are probably going to bring in a shit ton of money. I personally preferred the colorful standees but I remember how many were clamoring for minis back then.

I could give in to my evil tendencies... I have a friend who still hasn't played his OG Gloomhaven and who is a big fan of minis...

I agree with that. As I already said, what I wrote was not supposed to be an excuse but an explanation.

Somewhere on the ocean floor would be a great place to hide Hunter Biden's laptop...

while I certainly think the affluency of the victims is a factor it would be disingenuous to claim this is ALL it is.

For any regular occurrence, at some point apathy sets in. Car accidents are just not interesting to report after the hundreth time. If there were a dozen lost subs near the Titanic every year, I'm sure the story would lose it's luster too.

There's also the aspect that refugees are an ongoing and much more complex issue. You can't just save one ship of refugees. There will be another one in short order. And if you do save them all the question is what do you do with them? At the very least that'll cost you money. At worst it'll cost you political power. Are you going to realize what these people have gone through to get them to a point where they are willingly face these risks? Realizing that maybe something should be done about that is even costlier. And depending on the political landscape in your country most will just consider this "a self solving problem" anyway.

This is not to excuse what we're seeing. But we can't pretend that the stories should be covered the same. They aren't the same. One is much easier to cover than the other.

Granted the evaluated this for periscope controls not steering but still. The leap isn't huge and if you got some backup options that's probably a pretty sensible path to take.

Extraction ... 3? ... I thought he died in the first one!

Naja.

"Healthy" in big quotations marks. Healthier maybe considering you're reducing the fat content quite a bit...

Anyway. If you microwave sliced salami ob some paper towels you get crispy salami chips.

If you make a bunch of then you should rotate between several plates. Otherwise theyll get unbearably hot.

On Tuesday my group played Die Zwerge - Big Box Scenario 2 and so far I'm not a fan. There's no real mitigation option for bad dice rolls making combat really unsatisfying and the final three challenges were just ridiculously impossible.

On Sunday I played Mystic Vale with my girlfriend. She had a powerful totem that gave her a free mana and a VP for every upgrade that she bought. This meant that she was quickly racking up pretty sizeable mana pools and getting a constant trickle of VPs. I on the other hand was stuck with two sun elements and a hugely expensive leader which I couldn't upgrade until well into the second half. I focused (perhaps a bit too much) on getting a decent set of elements to buy vale cards which let me rack up a good amount of VP that way. Ultimately the game ended really tight with 64-62 VP in her favor.

Also on Sunday my group met for DnD. We're almost done with the Lost Mines of Phandelver - or so we though. Almost got TPK'd. A 28 damage fireball took out half of our party, a third tried to ram open a door and knocked himself out leaving only our halfling - down to 2 HP - trying to save everyone. Miraculously she remembered that the healer still carried a healing potion, used it on him who was then able to heal everyone up with a lucky dice roll on his group healing spell. In the ensuing retreat the knight managed to alert another horde of monsters to our presence.
