DDG is a privacy friendly frontend to the Bing search engine.
These are my reasons:
- Write.as is written in Go, while Plume is written in Rust and WASM. It may seem irrelevant, but Go has worse performance than Rust (among other things, because of the use of the garbage collector in Go).
- All Plume functions are free of charge. In the case of Write.as, the basic functions are free, but if you want to customize it to your liking, you have to pay $6 per month, which is not much, but it is something to consider.
- Write.as has a hermetic development in my opinion, even if it is open source. Plume is open source, hosted on Gitea (a good thing for those who hate Microsoft and GitHub), and they have a room on Matrix/Element.io to talk to the developers directly.
- Plume has been translated into more languages than Write.as
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I prefer Plume.
In my opinion, nope.
- Closed source (honestly, I'd rather not know what the redesign of Reddit is made of...)
- It's annoying, slow and tedious
- Works better in Chrome™ (I can't even scroll down the website properly with Firefox)
- Harmful business model (Reddit Premium, Reddit Coins, pay-to-win-karma...)
- It's a JavaScript powered website (not recommended for low-end machines)
- Communities are full of racists, homophobes, sexists, xenophobes...
- The use of sensationalist headlines is promoted to gain karma
- Is the ideal site for alt-right and conspiracy theories apologists
- Leftist/Communist/ML/MLM userbase is discriminated and censored everyday
- Reddit moderators are terrible (most of them)
- Dark patterns everywhere
- They block Tor users
- (I can think of many more but need I go on?)
Critical Theory, by Max Horkheimer and The Red Book, by Mao Zedong.
These are the applications that I personally recommend and that I use on a daily basis (I hope it helps you! <3)
- Music Player: Music Player GO
- Writing / Note Taking: Markor and Notally
- Diary app: Diary
- VPN: Mullvad VPN
- Maps: OsmAnd+
- Messenger app: Telegram FOSS or Nekogram X (if you use Telegram) and Molly (if you use Signal)
- Social Media / Fediverse frontends: Lemmur (for Lemmy), PixelDroid (for Pixelfed), Tusky (for Mastodon), Twidere or Twidere X (for Twitter, both are great but I recommend using the old one because Twidere X it's a bit buggy for now), Infinity for Reddit or RedReader (for Reddit, I prefer Infinity for Android but RedReader is great too), Twire (for Twitch) and Barinsta (for Instagram)
- PeerTube Client: Thorium and NewPipe
- Reminders / To-Do List App: Tasks.org + Birday (to remember birthdays)

And yes, Lemmy's developers want to integrate emojis too (check this tag for more info)
