I played a few games on her last night. She definitely felt a lot stronger with the fire rate and flight time changes but it did feel like the souls sharing wasn't as impactful. I had one game where I had 14 kills in the first 13 minutes but, aside from creating some space on the map and helping to take a couple of objectives, those kills ultimately didn't translate to a meaningful advantage for my team. Part of that was definitely just the fact that our team had 4 useless players on it and it was basically myself and this cracked Grey Talon hard carrying. But also, like you predicted, the enemy team organised themselves and started hard focusing me in every fight after that big opening kill streak which limited my effectiveness for the rest of the game (I went 10/5 after the 14/0 opening). I feel like maybe previously those early kills would have made given my team more momentum than they did in that game. But it was only one game that stood out so maybe it was just a bad one. Overall she does feel more viable as a carry than she did prior to this patch.

I think it's probably a good thing to get targeted feedback on them. The main bit in development is still the rest of the game - that's where they need most of the playerbase spending their time.

Undecided on the gameplay changes, I will need to get into some games tonight and see how they feel. However, I am pretty happy with the direction of the hero changes this patch, particularly the nerfs to Shiv and Seven's balls. Not that Seven was OP, but he was extremely obnoxious and un-fun to play against considering everyone was building into the ball and spamming it constantly.

I mostly play Paradox and Vindicta, so I'm happy to see some changes to them. Paradox was fairly well balanced already in my opinion, but the buffs to Kinetic Carbine play into the high movement, roaming ganker playstyle which is very fun. Vindicta has felt quite a bit tougher to play since the mega-nerfs a while ago, so hopefully this update helps with that though she will always be a difficult hero to balance because her movement and range is so unique. It's kinda sad to see the Assassinate souls-sharing be removed entirely as I thought it was an interesting team support mechanic on a hero that otherwise feels like it has a very stereotypically selfish DPS carry kind of vibe. Again, I get that it was a difficult mechanic to balance due to its uniqueness so maybe it's for the best. We will see if it returns.

I'm guessing this is some kind of tech literacy barrier, because I'm certain the overwhelming majority of people in Australia have more than enough mobile data available to use their phone as a hotspot instead of relying on public Wi-Fi. "I'm in a public area and want to use the internet, therefore I should connect to public Wi-Fi" is like decades out of date logic.

Are you thinking of a different cave? The only Nutty Putty death I'm familiar with is that 26 year old caver who got stuck upside down and died. Like it's definitely horrific and sad but he wasn't a kid and should have known there was significant risk involved.

The government is proposing to introduce two new serious vilification offences with higher maximum penalties, but it is not clear whether yesterday's neo-Nazi protest would fall within the scope of the laws.

...

Dr Roose said recent changes to laws that had seen people successfully prosecuted for performing the Nazi salute had forced neo-Nazis to change their behaviour.

"They used to have swastikas, they used to do the salute at every protest, they now can't do that," he said.

"They've become quite skilful at reaching the threshold but not necessarily stepping over it.

I'm not sure I see the contradiction either. From the reporting it doesn't sound like the neo-Nazis broke any laws. Are you aware of something which says Victorian Police can only use capsicum spray on people breaking the law? This suggests they also have the power to use it as a deterrent before illegal behaviour has occurred, which I imagine could have been the case if they were attempting to separate neo-Nazis from pro-refugee activists.

I guess but taking action against Israel is not really consistent with her election strategy of winning over Never Trumpers.

Baku is literally a high school aged teenager so it's not surprising a discussion-based social media platform filled with adults could get overwhelming for them. As I said to them once before, I was in their position back when old school forums were a thing and it was tough trying to fit in as a teenager when everyone else was in their 20s or older. You doubt and question yourself a lot more at that age, often unfairly. I agree that they were a good poster here and hopefully they'll return one day.

Have you actually watched the oath? You're acting as if there is some kind of hypocrisy here, like she was perfectly happy at the time and is now contradicting a previous position. But her swearing in was also a form of protest, she intentionally got it wrong the first time around and was quite literally coerced into correcting it by the President of the Senate.

Potential fragility aside, I think flip smartphones (at least the cheaper ones without a proper outside screen) solved the problem for me since I was never really a one-handed user of my XZ1 Compact. I liked the smaller size because it fit into every pocket safely and the smaller screen was more annoying to use and therefore less addictive. Flips have a similar barrier in terms of having to physically open the device to use it. It's a shame that even the cheaper models are getting the bigger outside screens now, though. It just makes these devices more addictive and more fragile.

Normally I tune out to this annual debate since it feels so polarised and stale, but the messaging from Woolworths, Cricket Australia, the Australian Open and others this year suggests big companies are concerned about an attitude shift within Australian society. It seems they've decided the inevitable backlash is now worth it because the silent majority has begun leaning in favour of change.

Is this just a natural result of this being the first post-referendum Australia Day or is there a longer-term change unfolding here?

One of Australia's largest video game developers has made half of its workforce redundant, citing issues such as rising cost-of-living and recession fears scaring off investors. The development team of the cancelled early access game Jumplight Odyssey will be put into the game in its final update and half of any future sales of the game will go directly to those who worked on it.

This isn't particularly recent news but it hasn't been reported on much for how significant it is. The TL:DR is that many 4G phones use 3G for calls or don't support VoLTE with Australian telcos. The shutdown will leave a significant number of Australians with phones that cannot make phone calls, forcing them to buy a new one.

Guardian Australia political editor Katharine Murphy talks to opposition MP Julian Leeser about the centre-right perspective on the voice to parliament and how the referendum could still succeed.
