"Don't commit two crimes at once". On the evening walk yesterday I spot a parked car with people throwing litter out the window onto the nature strip. I take a photo but don't confront them. I later check the rego on vicroads, the rego doesn't match the make/model. Fuck litterers. I submit a crimestoppers report of suspicious activity with the photo. On the morning walk a tow truck and cop car are taking the car away. If they didn't litter, I wouldn't have checked the rego or bothered to submit it to crimestoppers.

Same advice for speeding when you're carrying an illegal cargo. Obey ALL road rules without exception, and don't get sprung using your phone.

[–] dumblederp@aussie.zone 8 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Be sober, don't speed, have drug car in roadworthy condition.

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Always funny to see a cop show, where they pull over some beat up late model Holden, with bald tyres, that was speeding through a red light. Only to find gear, cash and paraphernalia inside and the driver arguing that cops should be catching real criminals.

Years ago I drove unlicensed (license expired, couldn't book a test soon enough, but still had to drive...reasons not excuses...it was wrong) and it made be the best driver. No speeding. No stupid shit.

Make sure all that paint you just stole from work isn’t leaking and leaving a perfect drip trail to your house

Love your work.

Assuming the phone is ok, on the upside you won’t need a car scent thing for months!

[–] Baku@aussie.zone 6 points 7 months ago

The phone should be okay. Water resistant + the coffee wasn't very hot. But it was sticky, so it's a bit worrying it got into the charging port. It should be fine if given a quick rinse under the tap

Omg this is NSFW; my coffee was absolutely traumatised when I showed it this picture 😭😭

I told my friend that I don't have the emotional capacity to help with the issues he's currently dealing with. More than happy to hang out and give him a space where he can decompress, but that's the best I can do.

He understood, which is great.

My therapist agrees:

Smart therapist. You should tip them extra treats

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 7 points 7 months ago

Reading of your friend's issues I'm reminded yet again I'm from a different time.

30-40 years ago people didn't rush into moving in together, they could easily afford to live on their own.

And because of that it was easier to move out too.

Wages were higher, debts were lower. So much less stress because there wasn't the financial stress.

It just seems romance used to be easier then.

Now decisions are so fraught

[–] underwatermagpies@aussie.zone 5 points 7 months ago

Nice couch! Tommy agrees with your therapist.

I have this friend. He is in perpetual turmoil.

What he does is get into a relationship with the wrong type of person out of fear of being alone, then they move in together within a few months.

This inevitably goes sour. Every single time.

I'm doing my best to support him but I'm getting frustrated. Really frustrated. I have my own shit to deal with. He's like a helpless child

Edit: they broke up because she expected him to pay all the rent and bills while she attempted to setup a business.

Neither of these people should be in relationships.

/Rant

[–] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 9 points 7 months ago (4 children)

Operative word here is 'fear'. And 'helpless child'. You probably wouldn't be surprised to know that a significant proportion of the problems dealt with by marriage counsellors and the like are about people thinking that once they are in a relationship, all their adulting problems are over. Cos partner will then be the adult and they can then remain as a child with all their physical and emotional needs taken care of by the other person. Without them having to ask. This rarely happens and is an unrealistic expectation at best. No bloody wonder the relationship sours.

I don't know if this is what is happening with your friend, but the odds are heavily for it. Guy needs to grow up. This may require therapy if he is more than 15 years old. Maybe point him to a Men's Shed or similar for a dose of adult relationshipping without tears or a major financial burden.

I am aware that some cultural expectations of what a relationship should be are different from mine, but surely growing up and behaving like an adult are fairly universal. For all participants.

Some people don't want to be alone even if they know the relationship is not good. They'll just wait for a new one to pop up and move on. Don't feel bad. Concentrate on you.

Moving in how? Him importing a Maid, or him sponging as a hobosexual. Madly clingy on either side? None are great, but some flavours are more ick.

Can't make up my mind if I want to spend some money and head up to the border for a couple of nights this weekend for the live country music weekend the RSL are having.

It'd be expensive and not super healthy (booze, food, maybe gambling) but...

It's my birthday on Friday next week so maybe it'd be a present to myself? I'm guessing things will be more hectic next weekend with people taking long weekends. Also no country music festival thing.

I don't knowwwwwwwwwww! Maybe I should just put off unhealthy expensive trips for a little while and try to be more responsible. Maybe I'll make a song about my very first world problems.

make sure you get your whooping cough vaccine update

I had no idea I needed an update and caught it, so much slime and the cough sucked

it would be extra awful for kids to get it

Wot she said! Never knew a booster was even a thing. 6 months hacking my lungs up and broke my gag reflex.

Also, I know this is random, but I just want to be positive for once. I really like how payid was actually implemented well. When it was announced and advertised I really thought it'd probably be yet another over complicated payment service nobody wants and nobody can figure out how to use, but it isn't. It just does what it needs to do, and usually does it in less than 10 seconds

It's so quiet here at home, it seems i can go days with barely talking except to the cats

and that habit then extends to everything, I get quiet with loved ones and friends, don't message, don't chat.

not sure if that's a good or bad thing

[–] Nath@aussie.zone 6 points 7 months ago

I hear you. I'm so bad at initiating contact with friends. I worked on phones for too many years, to the point that I just don't call anyone for a chat - ever. I also need to suppress my natural instinct to find out why someone is calling me, deal with whatever that is and get off the phone again like a good phone worker would.

I'm up for stuff, it just never occurs to me to arrange it.

[–] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 5 points 7 months ago

Might be a necessary thing while in recovery from, well, everything. The time to get social is AFTER you feel better, and better able to deal with the random shit associated with other people. Who mean well, but might not be sensitive.

I hate using salesforce and their other products but I'll take a free breakfast from them if they're offering

[–] TinyBreak@aussie.zone 4 points 7 months ago

Also dislike salesforce.

I've been dealing with big stuff for so long that I'm starting to get really fractious about the little stuff. πŸ˜• And I've been surrounded by toxic/hateful people for so long that I'm becoming that way myself. Or at least very cynical. Everything is exhausting.

Has anyone here managed to replicate rice cooker rice in an instantpot?.... No matter which recipe/method I try it just doesn't come out right. Last night's was cooked, but not fluffy, sort of more chewy. I've used the "rice button" option and a few pressure cooker options.

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 4 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (4 children)

Yes I have!!!!

1:1 ratio of rice to water

Pressure cook on high for 3 minutes.

Works every time.

DO NOTE CHANGE THE WATER TO RICE RATIO. EACH CUP OF RICE NEEDS A CUP OF WATER. BELIEVE ME

Not sure if it's because of the shit turn of weather today but I seem to have developed a lovely sinus headache. I went out to catch up with a friend this evening for a short bit anyway, it was good but the headache's now worse, given that I had to wait ages for a tram coming back. Guess it was the protests...

I have finally picked a car to get a pre purchase inspection done tomorrow, so that's one thing close to resolution (if the seller doesn't back out of negotiations). Can't start my second job as soon as I'd like because of some bureaucracy at my current place, so that's still stressful, but I hope I can start on Monday 🀞 I really would like the extra cash soon...

Waiting for lasagna to finish reheating in the oven, then it's more panadol, hot herbal tea and another early night. Ugh maybe it's good that I still have some time before starting the new gig.

looks like free delivery for woolies on uber eats. So if you have a compulsion for dumplings like I do, get on it!

I had a crack at some aldi porterhouse steaks last night. Ended up a lot more Medium than Medium Rare, but still were pretty good for 5 bucks a pop.

Anyone driving around Cheltenham, seems there's two prangs - one around the Southland area and one at Centre Dande Rd- saw some flashing lights around there as I pulled in.
Avoid if you can.

I noticed that the cat cafe near QV is marked as temporarily closed. Apparently due to some lease drama. Are they the only actual cat cafe we have/had here? The only other one I could find (cashmere) seems to not actually be a cat cafe anymore, more an abandoned cafe with cats and cans of coke
