That is precisely why I cut my dick off

[–] THE_MASTERMIND@lemmy.today 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

How does that solve anything ?

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It serves to externalize & manifest the internal pain.

[–] THE_MASTERMIND@lemmy.today 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)
[–] lars@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 8 months ago

It would be about 1 inch less deep in my case 😎

[–] Kotsi3PO@sh.itjust.works 28 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Hey man I've been there. Tbh what got me thru it was pure spite for those who did me wrong, and hope for the future of videogames which give me joy. I hope you're able to find joy too. Please PM me I'd you want to rant - I'm a great listener.

[–] Console_Modder@sh.itjust.works 12 points 8 months ago

Success is the best revenge

[–] Funkytom467@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

A response both wholesome and a great plot for an antagonist or anti-hero.

Be sure to post either your revenge or your the next game you enjoy my man.

Don't... I've been there. Tried it even. And after living a bit longer, I can finally say with certainty that I'm glad I survived. Will there be a heck of a lot more suffering? Yes, of course. Life is suffering. That's the whole point. And when you find something worth suffering for - and you will, someday; I didn't believe it either but it is true - you'll see beauty in it, value, reason to continue. If you think you'll hurt yourself, call 988 (in the US), whatever your number is there. Or call a friend. Yes, they really do care. No, it is absolutely ok to bother them at 12:30am. IK it's what we all hear and sounds dumb but it really will help. Get help. It's a hard step to take, but I wish I had earlier. Heck, DM me if you have to and have literally no one else. I can't promise the pain will go away entirely - it won't. But it will get better. Life is worth it - even when you can't see that all the time.

[–] tourist@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

What did you find that made it worth it?

[–] gandalf_der_12te@feddit.de 2 points 8 months ago

If you would see yourself from the outside - what would you do?

[–] Kit@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 8 months ago

Hey it's been a week so I'm checking in again. I noticed that you haven't posted since this. I hope you're OK. I've been worried, even though we're strangers.

[–] ThrowawaySobriquet@lemmy.world 16 points 8 months ago

The hard part isn't so much that I'm trapped in a prison of flesh that will in time fail me in every way as it rots away from the spirit animating it, but more that everyone else has to be a giant dick about it

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 12 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Are you the same person you were five years ago? You can be someone new in five years from now.

[–] zea_64@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 8 months ago

I do so much work for future me, knowing I won't see it. Er, until I do. Time's weird. I want to change who I am so badly, but it's an eternity away.

[–] Bassman1805@lemmy.world 11 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Joke's on you, I'm Buddhist!

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 6 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

do i get to be someone else if im buddhist?

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Yes! Through the power of reincarnation you can be someone else. Or a bug. Or a bacteria.

[–] OpenStars@startrek.website 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

In all likelihood, your molecules will end up in both... :-)

[–] protist@mander.xyz 7 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Your molecules probably already have ended up in both! Because our bodies are constantly exchanging molecules with our environment, not because you're already dead

[–] OpenStars@startrek.website 3 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

What if I was though, and like this is my dream, from when I'm a bug? :-P

C.L. Lewis blew my mind when I read this one take from him: what if like all of life is a chess game, and we are merely pawns in it... BUT we are also the player, moving ourselves around!?

I don't think that's the case, or at least there is no evidence of such, but that's not the point, the point is to imagine what might lie just beyond the box that constrains our thinking too narrowly:-).

[–] fossphi@lemm.ee 8 points 8 months ago

This is too real for a shitpost

[–] RIP_Cheems@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Nah nah mate, just be high all the time and you be a better you

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 7 points 8 months ago (1 children)

That's why I can't find the reset but can I at least rerun a level?

[–] abbadon420@lemm.ee 3 points 8 months ago

No, this is like old school mario. If you die, you have to start all over.... allegedly

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 6 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

This is why I spend more time in VR than regular R. I can be someone else. I can even be a 50 foot tyrannosaurus, like I wanted to be when I was a kid! Rawr!

[–] Kit@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

How does one get started in this?

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 4 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

You could get a stand alone headset like a Quest 3 or a Pico 4 and get in on a slightly less good looking VRChat and have access to what amounts to mobile games but in VR (some of the standalone games are actually good but they're kinda rare) or you could pair any HMD (including the two previously mentioned) with a powerful enough PC and play the good shit.

[–] Amir@lemmy.ml 6 points 8 months ago

That's why you play DnD

[–] Haagel@lemmings.world 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)
[–] Gork@lemm.ee 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Even if they don't get the results they might expect, I am glad there are some actual scientists looking into this. I think the stigma tends to prevent scientists from even studying this sort of field, to our detriment.

[–] Haagel@lemmings.world 2 points 8 months ago

Thank you for taking a look. Yes, there is so much stigma that I was hesitant to even describe in this post the research that this medical school is doing. Still, I've found their publications to be quite interesting.

[–] MataVatnik@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

Nah i can still delude myself into thinking that if I work hard enough I will be elon musk

[–] femboy_bird@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 8 months ago

Your kind cling to your flesh as of it will not decay and fail you

[–] Thcdenton@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

Yeah but others take turns being me

[–] fl42v@lemmy.ml 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

One shot, you say? Tempting, but I'll save it for later. Besides, I don't even have a gun...

[–] TakiMinase 1 points 8 months ago

Them gun laws mmmhmmmm

[–] gandalf_der_12te@feddit.de 2 points 8 months ago

Like, I believe it is as if you go rock climbing.

You can fall down, but you will only fall down 'till the next security net, or to the bottom, if there is none. Then you just try again.
