Yeah, I don't think that's avoidable. A "computer" used to be a job. Then came what was still referred to as "AI" in the 1950s and obsoleted that job. People who did computing ended up adopting those electronic computers to aid them while they went on to think about more complex things.
Similarly, digital artists will have to adapt. Some might still be able to make a living with truly custom art, where they can e.g. show the whole process in livestreams. But others will routinely use these AI images as their canvas, to which they only make tweaks.
