I think when you upvote, you make the post more visible in people's feeds, while boosting is more about increasing the reputation of the poster? I'm not sure what the latter implies, though. One notable difference seems to be that boosting is not anonymous. Everyone can see it was you who did the boosting.

In kbin, magazines are based on topics. Users can start threads within a magazine and upvote or downvote in any threads. An upvote is the equivalent of a like or favorite on other platforms. If you boost a thread comment, that is the same as boosting or sharing on another platform.
kbin also has microblogging which is the same as Mastodon, and you can boost and upvote microblogs as well.
Ok, thanks. So if I want to Toot like on Mastodon, out into the void of Kbin, I use Microblog? And I want to discuss a specific theme, I use a magazine in the relevant topic?
@acunasdaddy Yes. Use the add new link under the + sign drop down menu to create a thread. Be sure to add hashtags to your microblog post so people can find it. Have fun.
Upvote does basically nothing, boost is upvote. This is because of a bug, so make sure you just press both buttons.
