When I lived in Ottawa back in the late 00's it seemed so peaceful. It sounds like it's going down the dump.
What happened? It's it a bit overblown by the media?

It’s not great for what used to feel like such a safe city.
A light rail system through the heart of the national capital where the contractor failed to meet the performance guarantees is awful. When the station literally called Parliament smells of sewer, and the trains are all fouled by it, there’s a downward spiral. When that train then runs through an area with a history of violence and drug issues, all the worse.
It was however the convoy protestors in February 2022 that truly destroyed many residents’ quality of life downtown. Beyond the unbearable noise and filth, the protesters harassed everyone outside who wasn’t with them, including children and teens attending schools in centretown.
Calgary's Stephen Avenue McDonalds challenges the Rideau Street McDonalds to a crack-off.
The 99 Rideau MacDonalds has closed so Calgary is more than welcome to take the baton of ignominy.
99 Rideau was given a suitable farewell procession by the community though https://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/marchers-mourn-end-of-a-mcera-as-notorious-ottawa-mcdonald-s-will-soon-be-mcgone-ald-s-1.6319774
