Me kinda? I'm adjacent. I think. I've been in and out as a lurker in the fandom for the past decade or so. I still don't have a sona... mostly because I can't decide what species.
have furries been thriving on the fediverse all this time?! eg, mastodon. i legitimately feel like I've noticed a furry "void" in my usual internet spaces for a few years...

there does seem to be a dearth of them around here and a lot of that probably has to do with the explosion of the mastodon instance snouts.online a few years back and a generally bad experience with mastodon many furries (at least in my circles) had back around 2019-2020
mmmmm that does ring some bells. i hadn't really delved into it at the time, and i'd heard tales of drama... (which might be the reason for the former!)

Entry level furry. If it's a character I like, I might do the deed to them but I don't seek it out outside of that
I'm dangerously furry, though I keep on the down-low.
+1 here, funnily. But only kind of? Kinda associated with the community when I was younger, grew a little away from it but still consider myself one? Just happy to be a dog on the internet I suppose haha

I've moved in and out of the spaces for a while but never fully immersed, in part because I didn't feel strongly about any potential fursonas, and have a disinterest in the most popular art styles used. I've used a rat as an avatar in the past but I don't consider the rat to be representative of me so much as my artist's signature. And it's always been drawn as a cartoon rat, not an anthro rat.
I did used to draw a lot of aliens, monsters, and dragon-people though, and identify with those. It helped me feel stronger or more capable to imagine myself that way. If I ever do settle on an animal to present me online and join the furry community 'properly', it will probably end up being either a fantasy fusion, a scalie, or both.
I'm not active in the community anymore, so I guess that makes me furry-adjacent but, yeah.

adjacent to the community since 2011; i created my fursona in 2017 because most of the people i am friends with are also furries. that remains the case. this is just kind of an intrinsic part of my personality and if i'm honest it makes talking with more normally oriented people kind of boring 😅

hello, i'm a relatively new furry haha. my main sona is a bat, though i also have a goat and a snow leopard that i often switch between. currently they just exist as different avatars on secondlife, since i can't draw to save my life.

Not enough
as i've noted before furries are the vanguard of any successful online community so any niche you can find them in is probably a stable one
Plus if all those furries working in tech just went poof, then the internet would probably collapse!
It really comes down to having a "place" to engage in. I don't think beehaw/lemmy has a furry community yet. This is further complicated with "art" (which I understand, hosting+moderation). One of the things I'll miss from reddit is those communities. Granted, I was lurking more for the "art".
