1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack members of the community for any reason.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • These rules are somewhat loosened when the subject is a public figure. Still, do not attack their person or incite harrassment.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn. Even if you watch it on a Linux machine.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

Ah hacknet. Teaching people Linux terminal in a fun way without them even noticing.

wait fr? should i start playing?

    [–] Tarogar@feddit.org 15 points 3 months ago

For real. Hacknet uses commands that work like that in the usual Linux terminals. Including the auto complete feature. At the very least you will learn the basics from that game. As for if you should start to play it. Well the question is if you enjoy a puzzle game with a story that is hacking themed using actual terminal commands to do stuff. If that sounds like fun the go for it.

I recently made the switch to Linux for my primary computer and I felt sad I really don't know anything about using the CLI. Thanks to your comment, I found Hacknet on Steam and it's on a wicked awesome discount right now so I bought it and have played for a few hours.

Now I know how to at least navigate the system through directories, and that's giving me confidence enough to keep on exploring and studying more. Thank you! :)

Are you even a real hacker if your screensaver isn't the cascading Matrix code?

You have a Screensaver? I just have a recursive Get-ChildItem command full-screen reading out the entire windows registry.

The errors add color and variety

Screensaver? I rigged up Wallpaper Engine just to make that my actual desktop background.

I only hack while drinking a fine bottle of champagne, with at least 3 monitors that start flashing beautiful colors, as soon as $hacked === true.

Usually John Travolta and Halle Berry stop by later and join me raving to the hack.
