How much is ginger for you? Where to get it cheap? (lemm.ee)

I've been interested in making a ginger bug. Seems easy enough and can carbonate soda. Went to buy some this weekend and it was $4/lb. That seems like a lot! For reference, I usually buy fruits for the family or fermentation when they're $1/lb and never go above $2/lb.

I plan on growing my own, prelim researching says it's easy enough, but until then, where do you get yours and how much is it?

Hispanic market too. They sell it for 90¢/lbs at my favorite but $3 a hunk at the Walmart

Farmers markets in my area are 2x expensive as grocery stores. I've never been to a market cheaper than grocery.

The best and cheapest ginger I've found has been at the local farmer's market. Can't remember the price but the ginger itself was fresh, large, and amazing. ymmv obvs

2.69/lb in Los Angeles right now. Could get it cheaper if I leave my own neighborhood.

I didn't have much luck with growing. It is easy to get it started but for me drought put it out. Now on its place grows buckthorn (at least translation told me that is what's it called).
