As an American-Brit who has been living in Sweden for a couple of years, I've always found it interesting that pretty much everyone I know here can be found at their home address simply by googling their name and clicking on hitta.se. When I show this to my British or American friends, they're always shocked, and I find myself explaining that "Swedes have a very different, more trusting, relationship with their government than Brits or Americans."
Personally, I've never had a problem arise from this, and neither has anyone I know here, but I've been here less than for two years. I love it here and I can see myself living here for the rest of my life (that is, if you'll have me! Soon time to renew my visa!)
But I find myself wondering: Has anyone here, or anyone you know, ever had a problem arise from their address being listed publicly? Strange people turning up at your door, weird post or packages, or something worse?

Theres a massive problem with criminals being able to find their victims, and criminals at the same time sets their home where it isnt, even though its illegal it doesnt matter to them ofc.. So they eat and have the cake.
The system is retarded. It really doesnt bring any benefits to law abiding citizens.
Its an remnant from the good ole times when there wasnt shootings and bomb detonations every week.

Lol - You dont think its easier?
Hitta.se and the open registry in Sweden is an extreme invasion of privacy, dangerous and it should be illegal.
Imagine being a girl who has a stalker and she can’t get her address removed from these sites for more than a week before they are up again.
It’s insane how nonchalant you are.

Any swede in would tell you that's bullshit and it's obvious you're not from here. Stop it with the right wing propaganda.

Weve been naive is the swedish mantra of the century. Haha höger, hur fan är det höger? Nä man kan ju inte ha en egen åsikt i Sverige de ä omöööjligt. Jantelag ftw.

This is not a "massive problem". Calling it that is just FlashBack fearmongering. Like all systems, it can be abused. But thinking that the contact information for people can be somehow kept "secret" in other societies is pretty much a pipe dream. It's just less well organized.
No benefits, other than being one part of having a high trust society, and making interaction with other people easier. Having the state, instead of a cabal of private information brokers, controlling this information is also much better from a transparency perspective.
More fear mongering. And you just explained that criminals, who are the targets on shootings and bombings, does not live at their registered addresses... So I have no idea why this is relevant.

Känner du många i socialt utsatta positioner? Har hört mycket om detta trots att jag kanske inte fullt håller med.

Most people can figure out where the rich people live without publicly available addresses and tax records.
Criminal violence such as bombings almost always targets other criminals. If criminals don't even live at their registered addresses then the offenders have little use of these public records.

You can have “hidden identity“ if you are the target of criminals

Exactly. And even then you probably have bigger problems on your hands if you need to remove your identity on Hitta

Well, the question was asked if you have had any problems with it or anyone you know (in person implied). So maybe try and answer the question instead of stating facts, as you say, without any source.

He’s right about the issue regarding how criminals use it to locate people. I have personal experience with this, and it was fucking awful. Or take stalkers for example.
In my opinion the biggest problem with it, is how hard it is to legally hide it. If that was easier, the list of potential problems would decrease.
IonicDecay at 2023-07-06 09:30:04+00:00 ID:

Yes awful... don't specify anything...
Your name, whare you live and your income is already public info, it's info you tell people in smalltalk, it's info any stranger can see with their eyes just standing near your hose or work, it's info your friends talkabout with other people.

I can’t go into details about it unfortunately.
The point is that I can CHOOSE to be open about it to people, but I can’t really choose it being public online

But.. you literally can't choose to be open or not about it to people near you. Unless you live in the forrest with high walls around and never leave. And even then u can guess your income based on the appearance of the house and I can see the house so I know where you live...
