Which bit? I found nothing saying 18c by 2026 on the boe page. 1.6c by 2026 is there. And so is a sentence saying that altogether after the boe there could be as much as 18c rise in temp.

There's a fine line between avoiding 'doomer talk' and actively lying about the state of reality.

I'm all for hope (I desperately want to have it) but I'm really struggling with all the posts here that massively minimise the danger we're in and promote wishful thinking.

I don't know how this can be changed or improved upon but vehemently pretending that protesting, signing petitions, and setting up community gardens is enough, is just making me uncomfortable.

How do we lift each other up and make tomorrow a better place when all the science points to climate collapse and fresh water and arable land being depleted in the next 5 to 30 years?

Scientists are on it. Everybody have HOPE! We can fix it! Carry on eating meat, recycling and having children, and just remember- DON'T LOOK UP! (And pay no attention to the rest of this comment.)

A huge amount of polar ice has melted this year and a massive amount of carbon has been released into the atmosphere from the wildfires , on top of the huge amounts from industrial pollution.

More carbon in the atmosphere means more heat in the next few years.

5 more years as hot as 2023, and we'll have less than 100,000 sq km of polar ice left, the oceans will be absorbing the massive amounts of solar radiation that the ice had previously reflected, and will start releasing massive amounts of methane clathrate from the sea floor. This is called the Blue Ocean Event. And is also known as the Clathrate Gun Hypothesis.

To add to all this terribly offensive fearmongering: There are over 8 billion people on earth and global fresh water reserves will be 40% over capacity by 2030, and 90% of global top soil and arable land is 'at risk' of depletion by 2050. ('At risk' is in quotes to highlight it's a conservative estimate from the UN.)

.

If anyone does actually have proper scientific evidence that there is reasonable cause for hope in our ability to 'fix' climate change, I'm all ears and would very much appreciate it, because from where I'm sitting it just looks like if magically the blue ocean event and clathrate gun don't go off and end us first, the drought and famine will shortly after.

Women being referred to as 'females' makes my skin crawl. I have only encountered this term being used by men who objectify and dehumanise women.

Roasted sprouts stired with vegan sour cream and chaat masala and topped with spring onions and tomato. I cannot even begin to describe how good this was, all rich and tangy and savoury and creamy. I ate this for 4 meals in the last week and I have another bag of sprouts in the freezer I'm going to be making it again wit it's so freaking good.

The other thing I've been eating this week is peaches. If peaches are in season and available for a reasonable price where you live, get yourself a punnet or two. They might not be around reliably in the next few years so should be enjoyed while you still can.

We deserve to die out.

When I first got into weed, there used to be this really nice, toasty cinammon tasting hashish, that came in solid stone like blocks and had to be heat up with a lighter to crumble it. Fuck knows if you can still find this stuff anywhere, but I bet it would impart some really good flavours into chocolate.

I really hope this doesn't lead to settlements on the moon. I saw this post earlier and since then I've been imagining huge industrial factories on the moon, crushing the glass beads and processing the water for human and agricultural consumption.

The thought of humans getting off world and parasitically destroying more habitats to fuel endless growth, is horrifying.

The life long scifi fan in me is sad admittedly as I've spent my life reading and watching stories of space, aliens and marvelous technologies, but we are not a responsible enough as species to leave this dying world we've built for ourselves.

The Stella McCartney duck shreds (made of setien, soya and seasonings) are my favourite fake meat. They're delicious, don't need cooking (defrost first tho obv) and you get a good sized bag for a couple of £, which is cheaper than most other fake meat products where I live.

I eat these in wraps with chilli oil, cabbage, cucumber, spring onion and hoisin sauce. Or I chuck a handful on rice and season it with some chilli oil, crushed garlic, mushroom soy sauce and add whatever vegetable I have in the fridge, usually cabbage or a finely diced ripe tomato.

It will be a few more than that. The global demand for fresh water will be 40% over capacity by 2030, if we even make it that long.

We're losing massive amounts of polar ice daily and if the next 5 years are as hot as 2023, the Blue Ocean Event will happen in 2027.

Source on ice loss in weight.

Another on ice loss with km sq.
