My day is worsened by seeing this. Absolute creep behavior, sending your cop to a girls house to harass her.

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 29 points 8 months ago (2 children)

I think this was just a joke

[–] manuallybreathing@lemmy.ml 22 points 8 months ago (1 children)

babe come back, i'm sorry, it was only a joke

ha ha, good one

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 19 points 8 months ago (2 children)

I thought the ridiculousness of the situation was the joke.

[–] Liz@midwest.social 24 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

Yeah, cops pull favors for friends and family all the time. This doesn't read as comically absurd.

Edit: geez I just fixed a bunch of typos...

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 8 points 8 months ago

How it's written combined with the title and it being posted to Twitter doesn't seem like your run-of-the-mill favour stuff but rather makes me think it's made for a joke.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 5 points 8 months ago

Unfortunately I know people who 100% would have done that in our younger years. Proportionality is just a fancy word to them.

Wrong me? Nuclear bomb time!

Ughh....

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 12 points 8 months ago

This may be a joke, since it somehow ended up on Twitter, but I'd be willing to bet this has happened many times regardless.

[–] LolaCat@lemmy.ca 134 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Glad she broke up with him, what an abusive piece of shit.

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 72 points 8 months ago (1 children)

This doesn’t even claim that. “She broke my heart” could be “she wouldn’t send me Snapchat nudes” or some garbage

[–] lseif@sopuli.xyz 21 points 8 months ago (1 children)

it think they mean op is abusive

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

I mean yes, that’s without question, I’m just pointing out that the comment is acting as if there was already some pre-existing relationship between them, when that’s not laid out, and it literally could just be “I met a girl I wanted to have sex with and she denied me, so I will use my family ties to the police to harass her.”

Also, if this is the US, underage generally means under 21. If this is another country, underage could mean under 18, which just makes it worse

[–] JackGreenEarth@lemm.ee 72 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Hopefully that's just a joke.

[–] superduperenigma@lemmy.world 145 points 8 months ago (1 children)

The cops? Abusing their authority? Selectively enforcing laws to engage in personal vendettas against people? They would never! /s

[–] PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca 67 points 8 months ago (4 children)

There are literal “get out of jail free cards” that LEOs give to their friends and families. They are called police courtesy cards.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2023/06/05/nypd-pbacard-lawsuit/#

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 11 points 8 months ago

An NYPD spokesperson said the agency “will review the lawsuit if and when we are served.”

e.g. “we’re hoping this gets shut down before it ever reaches our lawyers”

A PBA spokesperson did not comment directly on the cards but said in a statement that the union “does not set policies regarding the way that police officers perform their duties. […] The law and NYPD policies afford police officers discretion in taking enforcement action”

e.g. we would never codify this, that would be proof of corruption, instead it’s just an unwritten rule we can use to support further corruption

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

PBA cards. They’re ridiculous and completely legal.

[–] Cruxifux@lemmy.world -1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Wtf? Do they have that in Canada too?

[–] PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Probably. The culture here is not much different than in the states (lived in the states for 12 years). I’d guess more rural parts of Canada will have this. In my small town out east people stop to chat with their officer friends. The police here are scarce since we don’t have our own department and just use RCMP. I feel safer seeing less police cars.

[–] Cruxifux@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

My experience, living in Canada and travelling a lot to the states for work things and also around canada for work, is that the culture similarities are entirely dependent on what state you are in, and what province.

How to assassinate your ex and her friends legally

[–] SteefLem@lemmy.world 34 points 8 months ago

Aaaannnddd she got shot….

[–] shield_gengar@sh.itjust.works 29 points 8 months ago

Least corrupt cop

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 29 points 8 months ago (1 children)

If the answer they expected isn’t “no” then they’re probably a psychopath, just like their brother.

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

I mean this is also how my best friend and I talk.

I find a cool car on marketplace and instead of texting "Hey, check this out" I say "You should buy this for me or Ill tell them where we buried the hookers."

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 22 points 8 months ago

Apparently amoral behavior that builds a psychology of imperviousness leads to being a cop, not just after they become one.

[–] Lizardking27@lemmy.world 12 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Abhorrent, psychopath behavior.

[–] Deceptichum@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 months ago

Normal cop behaviour.

[–] Halosheep@lemm.ee 12 points 8 months ago (5 children)

This comment section just demonstrates that lemmy may have a disproportionately large number of neuro diverse individuals who cannot understand a hypothetical situation for the purpose of a joke.

Pull that stick out of your asses, people.

[–] qevlarr@lemmy.world 9 points 8 months ago

People know, still it's fucked up

[–] Lizardking27@lemmy.world 9 points 8 months ago

No, we all understand it's supposed to be a joke. But just like racist jokes or holocaust jokes, we recognize it as tasteless, out of touch, ignorant, and immoral.

You are the only one here who doesn't "understand".

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

This joke is in the uncanny valley.

[–] whereisk@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Well, you don't abandon an established watering hole (Reddit) you poured your soul in over the years for ideological differences or for inconveniencing you by killing your favourite client if you are typical - hell you'd only be using the official client to begin with.

[–] Grayox@lemmy.ml -3 points 8 months ago

But the stick feels good up there.
