What's a tankie?
Started as an insult for communists that believed communist governments could do no wrong. The term comes from people supporting the USSR rolling tanks into Hungary and Prague to crush rebellions. Today, the term also encompasses people who are vehemently anti-west to the point where they'd defend Russian or Chinese imperialism because they're "sticking it to the west".

When I looked there previously it looked like a bunch of mostly harmless cookers. Looking again now, I see hateful posts such as this:

Ah that explains why some post on other instances were complaining about porn everywhere and I had no idea what they were on about.

Or an NSA honeypot. Either way, it's easier for them when the cookers congregate in one spot.
I'm not certain, because by the time I joined the site they had already been defederated here and on many other instances. But I believe they had a reputation for being quite heavy brigaders. It's not necessarily because of them having a bad ideology, but because they push that ideology in an aggressive way in other communities.
The reputation for brigading and generally causing drama on other instances is why I blocked them from day 1.
Should really hold all gov and corporations accountable. Regardless of any affiliation.
