Obviously it’s still early days, but I’m just trying to gauge how many of you plan on sticking around here once the blackout ends on Reddit? I would love to see a decentralized platform take off, and want the Metalcore community to come along for the ride.

I'm a fan of your name haha I'm planning on sticking around. Not sure what the Venn diagram for metalcore fans is and fans of alternative social media is, but I hope this community can take off

Thanks lol I figured I would pick a name that would be a good reminder for others to wear earplugs at concerts

Absolutely! While I am not that much into metalcore anymore I used to frequent the reddit sub. For anyone looking for a deathcore community I created !deathcore@lemmy.ml

I already decided that I'm not going back to reddit. Instead I will try my best to help create these communities here on Lemmy. I believe decentralized free social media is extremely important

I agree. I guess we will see where things are headed over the next couple of days over at r/Metalcore. I was thinking about reaching out to the mods there to see if they would allow for a generic how-to post on creating a Lemmy account and subscribing to this community. I’ll admit, it is a little more confusing than what most people are use to when creating social accounts, but once you actually start using it, it’s not half bad. Maybe some day we could even set up our own “core” server.

That would be cool to get more people to join.

It is indeed more confusing, but after getting the hang of it I think the possibilities are really exciting. As you said, building an entire core server would be awesome for example. I'd even be open to setting it up and running it. From what I've seen it shouldn't be too hard and I might have everything needed for it set up already anyways. However, I'd like to be able to migrate accounts from one instance to another before doing something like this, but I think that will be coming soon(ish)
