Time for PS5 Ultra Pro Max

[–] PunchingWood@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (2 children)

Or they gonna introduce GPU attachments instead of the disc drive lmao

But seriously, it's beyond sad how awful this "upgrade" is. First it's an insane price for minimal upgrade, there are no new games to even make use of this, and now even older games can't properly make use of the better hardware. The whole reason to even upgrade diminishes really quickly, and it wasn't even worth it in the first place.

Although it's kinda funny to read about people who bought the Pro and then share negative reviews how so-not-worth the purchase was. Listing all kinds of negatives that they could've known prior to buying one if they put in even minimal effort to research.

The one good thing the PS5 pro brought was the news that scalpers got fucked up because the demand is so damn low

I still see the PS5Pro as a bit dumb, but also not sure what Sony could easily do around this problem.

We’re at the graphical plateau where any improvements become extremely expensive, and increasingly hard to notice. Sure, we have 4K TVs and we’re not quite able to play all our games at 4K 120fps, but very few people care about that level of detail. Honestly, I don’t even know what Sony may be planning for the PS6 while still keeping it at a reasonable price.

Release a slim model and some colors?

Gaming's problem is games. I have no idea why Sony keeps throwing more hardware at less games if hardware is the loss leader in the gaming industry anyway.

Go bribe Remedy or FROM or somebody for an exclusive, wash/rinse/repeat the Bloodborne strategy.

Ray tracing. It makes good looking human skin. But if course it only matters for 3D games that aren't cel shaded.

Let me introduce you to my former phone: Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G.

They'll paint flames on the side to make it go faster.

Games not in the list of enhanced titles are not enhanced by the PS5 pro.

People who do not realize this are the same room temp IQ people who bough a PS5 pro.

More news at 11.

[–] Voyajer@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The PS4 pro could run non-updated games with better performance. Does the PS5 pro not have boost mode or whatever it's called?

[–] Viri4thus@feddit.org 1 points 5 days ago

"We expect Pro implementations to improve over time, and the first party Sony titles we've seen in the pipeline (Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone) looks simply sensational, but it may be some time before developers fully get to grips with the new hardware. But on the flipside, even in the here and now, even with so many different high resolution mode variations in the titles we've looked at so far, the bottom line is clear. Not much more money is buying a whole lot more power."

The PS4 pro had a much more compelling price position, however, the landing was pretty much the same.

[–] donuts@lemmy.world 16 points 5 days ago (2 children)

So 2 out of 50 games aren't really improved, aka 4%.

Turns out you can't just throw better hardware at every game to make it run better, who would have thought.

[–] lustyargonian@lemm.ee 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

It shows how devs often look at better hardware and prioritise heavier features over image quality and performance. Current gen of games could easily do 4k60 (most last gen games run like that) if they didn't try to get RT into the mix, but devs don't like that as RT gives them more time and resources that originally would've been spent on placing lights or baking scenes.

[–] filister@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

This works for PC but not for PS. PS games are highly optimised to target the current generation of consoles and there is very little initiative for developers to target a new console platform unless Sony sells tens of millions of those, which I very much doubt.

[–] B0NK3RS@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

No thank you Sony.

[–] zante 4 points 5 days ago

I think the ps4 had had price cuts by now . Instead they’re mainlining Premium Plus

[–] heavy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 days ago

Silent Hill 2 is a strange beast, you can tell it runs horribly. I'm sure a cracker or something is figuring it out.

Don't buy the Ps5 pro though, there's no point.

And the rubes still bought a pro anyway

[–] AlexisFR@jlai.lu 2 points 5 days ago

Should've upgraded the CPU too!

[–] dingdongitsabear@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Don't follow the PS scene, but I gathered that's an AMD APU in there? If so, what's the desktop equivalent performance-wise?

[–] AlexisFR@jlai.lu 4 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

The PS5 pro GPU is equivalent to a Radeon 7800XT with slightly better ray tracing cores, the CPU to a Ryzen 7 3700X with limited power.

[–] filister@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

CMV but the PS5 Pro is a completely pointless release. The only reason I see is for Sony to try to justify the higher price tag on the PS6 once it releases.

[–] CluckN@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (2 children)

There are over 50 Ps5 Pro enhanced games

The Ps5 has games?

[–] PunchingWood@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

Games don't need to be PS5 exclusive to be PS5 Pro enhanced.
