This site is currently struggling to handle the amount of new users. I have already upgraded the server, but it will go down regardless if half of Reddit tries to join.

However Lemmy is federated software, meaning you can interact seamlessly with communities on other instances like beehaw.org or lemmy.one. The documentation explains in more detail how this works. Use the instance list to find one where you can register. Then use the Community Browser to find interesting communities. Paste the community url into the search field to follow it.

You can help other Reddit refugees by inviting them to the same Lemmy instance where you joined. This way we can spread the load across many different servers. And users with similar interests will end up together on the same instances. Others on the same instance can also automatically see posts from all the communities that you follow.

Edit: If you moderate a large subreddit, do not link your users directly to lemmy.ml in your announcements. That way the server will only go down sooner.

I just tried making an account on beehaw but I'm not able to login, are they having problems as well or do they have some kind of an account screening proccess that just takes awhile?

The majority of instances require manual review. beehaw is one of them.

Edit: Never mind, I just read their post about it.

Ok, any idea of how long the process takes?

I was able to get accepted in less than a few hours. I think it really just depends on what time of day you're registering, and when they're reviewing registrations.

One thing I noticed was that I didn't get any notification that my account on beehaw.org was approved. Try logging in, it might work.

I've already tried logging in, even though it's been over 24 hours, I'm still not able to login. I'm pretty sure at this point that they rejected me and to be honest, I don't care. I can just try another instance if the servers for the main instance are still having issues.

If you already have an account you dont need another. You should be able to view beehaw instances on this site and vice versa when you search communities and select all. It's how I got here from the other side

I know, the only reason why I considered making an account on a different instances is because of the post that these comments have been on. I will still primarily use the main instance but until a solution to the server problems is found, I'll have an account on other instances that I can use.

Yeah, but then you're on an instance that is struggling with load and not always available. That's why people want to move. I am ahead of the curve because I never joined in the first place :P
