Wouldn't asexuality fall under the existing LGBTQIA+ community at the moment?
It does, but asexual people only make up about 1.66% of sexual minorities, so they may get drowned out in a combined community. Iit might be nice for them to have their own space.
I would also like to put in a vote for demisexuality, but since that's an even smaller slice it would be pretty niche at this stage.
I actually wanted to suggest a demisexuality community! But I figured I might be the only person in it.
Being asexual in a general LGBTQIA+ space can be kinda weird sometimes. I assume the mods don't allow blatant aphobia, but they tend to be very sex positive kinds of places, and while that is certainly a good thing, it's very common for even well meaning people go overboard and start saying that our sexual desires are what make us human or things like that. It can get uncomfortable.
In theory, yes. But asexuals and related ace spectrum people have very different interests from the majority of the LGBTQ community.
Sometimes I wonder if we were just brought in to swell their numbers! 🤣
