I know it's a bit different from the typical movie review/analysis but thought this was an interesting take on a great Thanksgiving day classic.

Summary

The Supreme Court will review a case challenging the FCC’s authority over the Universal Service Fund (USF), which subsidizes broadband for low-income, rural communities, schools, and libraries.

The case questions whether Congress improperly delegated lawmaking power to the FCC and whether the FCC gave too much authority to the nonprofit managing the fund.

This follows the Court’s rollback of Chevron doctrine, which diminishes reliance on agency expertise.

A Fifth Circuit ruling deemed the USF’s funding structure unconstitutional, raising concerns about the future of affordable broadband access nationwide.

Summary

Pat King, a key figure in Canada’s 2022 “Freedom Convoy” protests, was found guilty on five charges, including mischief and counseling others to obstruct police, and faces up to 10 years in prison.

The protests, which blocked downtown Ottawa and key US-Canada border crossings for weeks, opposed COVID-19 mandates imposed by Prime Minister Trudeau’s government.

King was accused of inciting the blockade, coordinating disruptive actions like constant honking, and defying court orders.

He is the first protest leader convicted, while trials for other organizers are ongoing.

A federal judge on Friday rejected the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's request to sanction Elon Musk after he failed to appear for court-ordered testimony for the regulator's probe into his $44 billion takeover of Twitter.

U.S. District Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley in San Francisco said sanctions over Musk's Sept. 10 absence were unnecessary, after the world's richest person testified on Oct. 3 and agreed to pay the SEC's $2,923 of travel costs.

"Because the present circumstances forestall any occasion for meaningful relief that the court could grant, the SEC's request is moot," Corley wrote.

The SEC had sought a declaration that Musk violated a May 31 court order to provide testimony.

It said having only to repay travel costs would not deter many other people from ignoring court orders, "much less someone of Musk's extraordinary means."

This owl seems to have had a ton of names over the years. From. Wikipedia :

Australian boobook has been designated the official name by the International Ornithological Committee, changed from "southern boobook" in 2019 with the separation of some Indonesian subspecies. The common name comes from the two-tone call of the bird, and has also been transcribed as "mopoke". William Dawes recorded the name bōkbōk "an owl" in 1790 or 1791, in his transcription of the Dharug language, and English explorer George Caley had recorded the native name as buck-buck during the earliest days of the colony, reporting that early settlers had called it cuckoo owl as its call was reminiscent of the common cuckoo. He added, "The settlers in New South Wales are led away by the idea that everything is the reverse in that country to what it is in England; and the Cuckoo, as they call this bird, singing by night, is one of the instances they point out." Gould recorded local aboriginal names: Goor-goor-da (Western Australia), Mel-in-de-ye (Port Essington), and Koor-koo (South Australia). Alternative common names include spotted owl and brown owl. The Ngarluma people of the western Pilbara knew it as gurrgumarlu. In the Yuwaaliyaay dialect of the Gamilaraay language of southeastern Australia, the Australian boobook is guurrguurr.

Dutch naturalist Gerlof Mees and German evolutionary biologist Ernst Mayr regarded the taxonomy of the boobook owl complex as extremely challenging,[18] the latter remarking in 1943 that it was "one of the most difficult problems I have ever encountered".

Two groups – the Alliance of Small Island States and the Least Developed Countries – have thrown down the gauntlet at a meeting. They’ve now said they want a guaranteed 30% of climate finance, and then walked out of meeting room three.

Speaking with journalists after walking out, representatives from Sierra Leone and Samoa expressed their frustrations with talks. “We have just walked out. We came to this Cop for a fair deal. We feel that we haven’t been heard and there is a deal to be made. We are not being consulted. That’s why we are here but we are here to negotiate. We walked out because at the moment, we don’t feel that we are being heard,” said the representative from Samoa.

“We are the countries that are probably the most affected by climate change. Our countries have not contributed a lot but we are affected. That’s why we are here to negotiate on behalf of our countries. We’ve made our needs and wants known. We are being ignored. That’s why we’ve walked out,” said the representative from Sierra Leone.

"What has happened here today is that the moral compass of the world, the most vulnerable countries, have walked out of the negotiations after they failed to honour the promises they had made to provide climate finance. The rich world has refused to honour their obligations."

"As a result the Least Developed Countries and the Alliance of Small Island States have walked out of the negotiations and say they cannot associate themselves with the draft which was put forward by the presidency."
